I was surprised –and pleased– to see Valentina Tereshkova one of eight carrying the Olympic flag

I noticed one of the flag bearers was Chulpan Khamatova, who played the Russian nurse, in one of my all-time favorite movies, "Goodbye, Lenin!"

“What do we expect from people who can’t be bothered to learn about another country’s history and culture? Of course the show didn’t show Russian/Soviet flaws! Every nation has an idealized account of its history.

And Russia’s spiritual, cultural and scientific contributions to mankind are obvious. They are a great nation and take great pride in who they are no matter how much outsiders belittle them.”

Bingo. The ones who don’t know Russian history and culture are the idiot commentators from NBC. And the only one who did know some, spoke so softly and had such a bias against anything about Russian history being any good, that he was basically worthless in his commentary. All he did was nitpick.

I thought the opening ceremonies were very well done and enjoyed the show immensely, in spite of the constant commercial interruptions, and the constant and inane talking by the NBC commentators right over the beautiful music and visuals. I might add that there is nothing more beautiful than the famed singing by the Russian choruses, specifically the all men’s choruses (how un-PC). I love to listen to them and was pleased they were showcased at various points during the opening ceremonies.

The word must have gone out from the Obama regime to the commentators (or they did it themselves, as usual fronting for Obama) to slam Putin and Russia at every opportunity, whether overtly or covertly. You just can’t cross the gay loving, Christian hating NBC folks like Putin has, and get away with it from their perspective.

Putin, for all faults that he may have, is a nationalist, and loves Russia I believe to the depths of his soul. He has traveled all over Russia, and loves its history. He is not a communist idealogue. An autocrat yes, a true Commie, no. He brought back overt Christianity (Russian Orthodoxy) to his people, has not acted as if the period of the Czars was a terrible part of Russian history like many Commies have, and incorporated that period of history (Czarist Russia) into his Olympic ceremony program tonite.

He also didn’t shirk from giving a portrayal of the Commie period too, being neither negative nor positive in order to show all aspects of Russian history and the audience could be the judge. It wouldn’t hurt if more Americans would pick up a book and read about Russia’s history, both good and bad.

I got a kick out of the MSM trying to make a big thing out of one of the Olympic light rings malfunctioning at the beginning of the ceremonies, as if this was some omen from on high of things to come. It wasn’t. With the exception of this one miniscule malfunction, the entire show went off without a hitch, was beautiful, and bravo to President Putin on a job well done. Liked this show a lot better than Canada’s or London’s shows.

I might add, there wasn’t all this trash talking and negativity before the Chinese Olympics show. And that is a poltically Commie country a lot more than Russia. But then the divisive President Obama and his thug Chicago regime wasn’t in office then either to stir the pot.

I think it was an omen of bad things to come since the failed ring represents the Americas. Either God pulled the plug on that one or Putin did.

I don’t share your superstition here, lol. However, our country is going down the tubes under the Obama regime, so in that sense Obama has pulled the plug on us. Perhaps that is what you meant. What we need to do as a country is to pull the plug on Obama, and sooner than later before he destroys our country any more than he already has.

I enjoyed the show as well and thought Russia did outstanding for the entire opening events. Wonderful!

As for the accomodations, some of the journalists are saying it’s not near as bad as twitter and the people are saying...in fa t they’re quite impressed with how state of the art everything is.

I think the participants complaining are from the generation of “It’s all about me”.....and are use to parents reinforcing that. So of course if they don’t have perfection they will complain ......too bad....might humble some of them to do without!

I completely enjoyed the opening ceremony and thought they did an excellent job with every facet of the performance.

Almost dittos on your post. I too thought the vast majority of the show was quite beautiful, and - as one poster already mentioned - showed individuality along with the impact of the masses.

However, the one area that rubbed me wrong was how cheery and happy the late Soviet era was portrayed. (I guess the CIA missed that Elvis was the Premier back then….)

I thought it was beautiful. Loved the whole thing - the films, the music, the dancing, the fireworks, the torch lighting- Well done Russia.

I am watching the ceremony right now cause I saved it in the DVR so as to skip the worst parts of the NBC propaganda, awesome, much better than England or Beijing by its simplicity.
Its such a dam shame here in America most people had to put up with the shit in Russia’s face dialog by Costas and NBC.

I hope someone from NBC reads this, YOU SUCK!

Excellent post. I too was amazed and enthralled by the beautiful Ruusian portion of the opening ceremony. Having been to Sochi and the Krasnodar region in the early 90s, and another dozen trips to various parts of Russia since, unlike so many on this board and TV, I have real experience and knowledge of Russia and love for the Russian people. Most people don't understand the plight of the nation and it's people, economically and spiritually, from 70 years of communism. This opening ceremony was a celebration of Russia's re-birth. It being put on in an area that was like a run-down giant slum is amazing.

It was also so pleasant to watch the nation's best put on a sublime performance that wasn't infiltrated with the god-hating, gay-agenda liberal wickedness that emanates from the highest political office on down in the USA. It's disturbing to realize that Russia is now, in some ways at least, a superior ideological world leader. I stopped watching it immediately on Thursday after Costas' gay-affirming remarks in his first sentences. I'm glad I gave it another chance.

My parents had a friend who lived in exile ion the Guantanamo Bay naval base. He had been Fidel’s personal bodyguard during the revolution. He believed Fidel was creating something like the US Revolutionaries created.

Once Fidel was in power, things changed quickly, and it became obvious Fidel was nothing like his supporters believed.

He questioned what was happening and very quickly became a wanted man. He fled to Gitmo, but his family was treated harshly. It took many years and a lot of money before his family was smuggled to freedom.

I distinctly remember Christmases. There was as all population of Cubans who lived on Base in exile. At Christmas time they would get drunk and bawl over what happened to their beautiful country.

They said the theme of the ceremonies was “dreams,” as Russians view themselves as dreamers. And it seems the “islands” (suspended by clouds) represented different regions of Russia (it’s a huge country). So it was like a dreamy presentation of Russia the country.

What was the deal at the very beginning with the islands and stuff?

I don't know, but I assume it was something from Russian history, like the landing of the Mayflower would be for us.

It’s sad they just can’t shut up and show the ceremony without commentary.

I thought it was great, myself....Of course having a grasp of Russian history does help.....but in general, Americans aren’t big on foreign history.
