Actually I meant the parent.

My wife was all over this one. She was saying the whole thing is ridiculous, that the kid is going to pay because the mom is a bitch.

“It was a great wedding and reception but caused 4-5 divorces! ;^}, ;^}, ;^}”

LOL. Those are the best ones.

Your wife’s right about that. Birthday Boy will suffer, probably far more than the no-show kid. For $20 +/-? Mom has to learn how and when to pick her battles.

THO it could be that it’s a single mom who works a couple of jobs and this was an enormous sacrifice to put on a party like this for her kid, so the extra $20 she had to lay out for an empty chair might have driven her over the edge.

Another article on this incident said that the “absent” child’s family did not have the information to contact the hosts and let them know the boy could not attend. This indicates there was no physical invitation, only conversation between people who didn’t know one another.

Weird stuff.

We live in an affluent community. We learned real quick that we were not going to keep up with the “jones” when my daughter came home with an invitation to go skiing over winter break. Her friend’s family was going to St. Moritz.

We kept our parties small.

That is the best explanation yet.

It’s what I read. Alex’s parents wanted to contact the hosts of the party, but they didn’t have an address or phone number, and the children weren’t at school over the winter break.

It’s hard to believe that someone would invite others to a party without providing a phone number or address, but ... a lot of things are hard to believe and yet happen.
