From the beginning, the vibe that show gave off was a very unhealthy one.
AMEN!
We can still choose what we can allow in our homes, thank God.
Indeed.
I call it a “dark spirit”, for want of a better name.
I agree, which is why I gave up Cable a long time ago. FWIW, HBO might as well be called the porn channel. TV broadcasts are simply not worth it nowadays. I get my news primarily over the internet, so I can select the most important, and not waste plenty of pages on the less relevant too.
I also have come to realize, now that I am married and making my wife and kids the priority, that unwed heterosexual intimacy isn’t that great either, at least when they don’t give you some of the real consequences that do happen from unwed sex. One of note, from others in my age group of 20-35, is that you end up a father in a custody battle for your kid, this isn’t just from divorce, it can and does happen if you father a child without marriage too, but I agree with all you mentioned.
I wouldn’t want the X-Files anyways. Why, because my honest experience with remakes is that they are so often just pale in comparison to the original. Government acting tyrannical? the original X-Files had that. Aliens, the original had that? Super-powered serial killers, the original had that. The original series covered so many themes, that perhaps the only thing thy didn’t do was an episode about Giant Monsters like King Kong or Godzilla, they even turned highly redundant after about the fourth season.
No one has yet to compare with Oscar Levant as a truly caustic wit. Neurotic as hell, but a fascinating and talented man.
