Amen. His target audience is 14 year old boys... that are not too smart.... Probably if they are smoking dope as well.
He has no talent. From what i've read, all the good ideas in the first movie are not his, and all of his ideas that didn't get into the first movie were incredibly stupid. (In the manner of Jar Jar Binks.)
I stopped watching Star Wars releases after "the Phantom Menace." They aren't entertaining, they are just brain dead stupid.
I actually liked “Tomorrowland”, script could have been better but the overall theme of the film was really good.
“I got it the second time and thought that it was kind of a fun movie, but that first one was it for me.”
Figures.
I saw the first three SW films in theater as a kid (very little, for the first one). I was oohed-and-ahhed by them, no question. One of the big attractions was the eye candy factor. For a kid raised on reruns of 60’s tv sci-fi Lost in Space and the original Star Trek, that first shot of a Star Destroyer hunting down Leia’s vessel took one’s breath away.
I would agree the movies aren’t deep, being more soap opera in space than genuine science fiction. And George Lucas, has always made the mistake of thinking that just because they can direct an action blockbuster, that he can also write good dialogue (see also: James Cameron). The fact that I’ve never bothered to watch any of the original three as an adult sort of speaks to how they’ve aged, in my view. I’ve seen Star Trek: Wrath of Khan at least 20 times, by comparison.
I’ve never bothered to even try to watch any of the newer films. They all looked mindless, even compared to the thin scripts of the original trilogy.
Those three he did are just about unwatchable, I cannot bear to look at them again and avoid them like the plague when they come on.
I don't think they made a good Indiana Jones movie after the original. Sacred rocks? Are you frigging kidding me? Stupid and ridiculous. The "Holy Grail"? Better, but they flubbed the plot. Crystal Skull was just silly and had no redeeming characteristics.
They should have done one about Excalibur or some such.
It was just like Star Wars. The original was a Gem, and sequels were dreck.
“I seem to have been the only person who remembers walking away from watching the first films original release, seen on The Big Screen, saying, That was stupid!”
I wonder if anti-Catholics just tend to not enjoy things as much as people who don’t suffer from the mental illness of anti-Catholicism?

The Holy Grail was a pretty good movie and hit on a number of cylinders. I agree on Temple of Doom and Crystal Skulls, could have been much better.
And for extra pain: The Star Wars Holiday Special.
Agreed. They make it impossible to believe he had anything to do with the original Star Wars.
Just for kicks, you might find this interesting/funny.
I'm willing to believe that George Lucas never had any good ideas. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
I can’t believe that anyone who grew up reading Science Fiction in the 50s, 60s, and 70s would think that the first movie was anything other than boring crap. Saw it the first night thinking that there was finally going to be a good sci/fi movie. So disappointing.

I wasn’t even in my teens when i saw the first movie in 1977. It was different & had some action. Visually it was interesting; never over-analyzed the movie or its ‘deep & meaningful’ message, if any... it was entertaining.
Then again in the 80’s it had an influence on pop-culture and political scene at least in title. Remember President Reagan’s SDI which involved the development of defense in outer space against intercontinental ballistic missiles was called “Star Wars”.
Preach!
"Still -Lucas is a billionaire, and I am not."
Lucas made a mint from merchandising. He was smart enough to capitalize on that. Of course, that was only successful because the movie was.
Compared to the other two, the Holy Grail was the best of the three, but it was nowhere near the quality of the first. The first was hitting on all cylinders.
Also, just like in the Original Star Wars, Harrison Ford gunned down an adversary in cold blood and without hesitation. In other words, he was sensible.
I could always trust Roger Ebert’s reviews though. Lefty he was, but his reviews were always spot on (may he rest in peace).
