Were in such a hurry most of the time we never get much chance to talk. The result is a kind of endless day-to-day shallowness, a monotony that leaves a person wondering years later where all the time went and sorry that its all gone.
― Robert M. Pirsig, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry Into Values
I was still driving my 53 to work back during Desert Storm. It was a hoot driving next to the soldiers in their Hummers, going to the Barbours Cut Terminal for their trip over.
Old ranch boss of mine told me, “Everybody should go through owning a Willys jeep...once.”
jeez Daffy that quote brings back memories.
I thought a lot of that little book way back when.
Yeah, though it’s kind of sad that he has nobody to pass the Willys and trailer along to. I’ve subscribed to Petrolicious’ channel on YouTube for a few years now, the off-road vehicle videos always seem to be the best.
Jeeps,,,PINGED
Sleeve-valve motor — never heard of that before, video is fascinating.
Wow Excellent!!!
With that tapered hood, it’s a CJ-5 or CJ-5A, so it’s later than 1951. The CJ-5 started in the 1955 model year.
Yeah.... It’s called the Jeepers - Freepers list.
They’ve got ATV’s that are bigger (faster!) than that old Jeep nowdays.
Yes - ping to the Jeepers!
Ayn Rand and Pirsig made me question everything, *way back when*.
I was lucky to have never lost my *Faith*. :)
Thanks I needed some Jeep time. link below to most recent run here. Yes I know the pics are sideways! hey it’s a Jeep thing (windows 10):

Huumm. I converted my CJ-7 to FI and the computer as fast as I could! The two barrel carb given a terminal head shot from a 338 Lapua. What a POS it was.
Sweet! Looks like a great time!
I started out with the 500cfm 2 bbl Carter on my 53 CJ with a 350sbc. With that 2bbl, I couldn’t take off on wet streets without breaking the tires loose. I swapped it out for the 390cfm 4bbl Holley. It has tiny primaries and that made it a much tamer machine on the street. Now I’ve also set it up as dual fuel. I’m running the same carb on my 56 Chevy with the 235 6cyl. Why over complicate these old machines?
Now those are a couple names you don’t often see together.
Yes, I read everything by Ayn Rand too, and some of them three or four times.
Pirsig a few times as well. Though his second book was a stinker.
