It’s going to be a hell of a summer in the big cities...

an unknown male approached and opened fire on the city's West Sid

How did this get past the editors? Guns just fire all by themselves.

17 has got to be some kind of record.

Nope. Believe it or not, there have been between 45-50 in a single weekend in Chicago in the not too distant past. And that was when Chicago still had a handgun ban in the city.

The deadliest weekends here in Chicago are the first few warm Spring weekends after a cold winter. There's a whole lotta pent up killin' needing to be done after a long cold winter it seems....

How about 40 shootings on two consecutive weekends and another with 50 in a weekend?

From the article linked above:

The burst of violence came after two consecutive weekends in which more than 50 people were shot for the first time in the four years that the Tribune has been tracking shootings. And in August, more than 40 were shot on four consecutive weekends.

In separate remarks, a clearly frustrated Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police Superintendent Garry McCarthy both emphasized their long-held beliefs that the proliferation of guns and lax gun laws are to blame for much of the violence.

BTW: That article is from September of 2015!

But it’s illegal to shoot someone.

Only if you get caught, which is unlikely in Chicago.

Chicago has the lowest apprehension rate (if not one of the lowest) in the nation.

If you're going to murder someone, do it in Chicago. I don't remember exactly where I read it recently, but there's a less than 1 in 8 chance you'd be caught in Chicago.
