War, and being prepared for war, are horrendously expensive. Even more expensive — and potentially catastrophic — is being in a war that one is unprepared for.

No.

B-47 (like the B-58) was a medium range bomber. Cross-country range (with a useful weapons load) required air-air refueling. (Heck, takeoff almosr required air-air refueling.)

There are good arguments that the B-58 was NOT a failure, but was cut at McNamara’s insistence to pay for his Vietnam war using “very biased” cost-benefit rules to shut it down. Instead, he wanted his FB-111 to do everything. The B-58 could have worked well in the short ranges in Vietnam with conventional weapons against the SAM’s as a Wild Weasel bomber-ECM machine, for example.

Much easier and faster than retro-fitting the EW gear into a heavy fighter F-105. And adding an extra seat to the F-105. B-58 already had three seats, already had a radar and power and an EWO seat. Could carry more load faster too.

They have one at the USAF museum in Dayton, OH.

There is also one on display in Tucson at the Pima Air Museum.

It is impressive to see it up close -

I have actually seen B-17’s and TBM torpedo bombers in action. They were used to fight a brush fire in the Whittier Hills above Whittier, Calif. on October 15, 1967.

I was an air traffic controller at Zweibrucken in the early ‘80. Canadian F-104s would participate in aerial attacks during base Salty Nation exercises. Was a blast sitting in the tower and looking down at the F-104s fly their attacks.

"Add fly-by-wire, all glass cockpit, HOTAS, and 2, just 2 F-119 engines..."

You could probably replace this whole station with an iphone:

...might be hard to read the radar screen though.

The runway at Yokota had them lined up back in 1959. Those and the F-102s of the Fightin’40th.

Those were the best days, were they not.
Flying A-10s in Low Fly 7, getting bounced all the time. Loved it.

Actually, the F-111 wasn’t named during its service life. Aardvark was a nickname. When it was retired from service in 1996, it was “Offically” named. Additionally, the EF-111A was named “Raven”. They were retired in 1998.

Pi$$ing away taxpayer dollars--Something the US federal government excels at...Socialist Insecurity and Medicare

SS and Medicare require that we contribute to our own care. TANF, SNAP, WIC, AFDC, Medicaid, 0bamacare take from the productive to support the leeches, the stupid and the unlucky.

We pay taxes today, to support today's retirees ... on the promise that tomorrow's workers will be taxed to pay us as retirees.

Charles Ponzi was imprisoned and deported for attempting to operate such a scheme. And he didn't even dragoon people into it at gunpoint.

Correct. The system was abused almost from the get-go.

In the Movie “Failsafe”, the President ordered NYC destroyed to avoid WWIII and they sent a B-58 to drop the Atomic Bomb.

Your tagline ...

The Benghazi Four: Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty

Then there's Vince Foster and Ron Brown, and probably a whole lot more from Arkansas ...

Agreed, but the her responsibility for the deaths of the Benghazi four is 100% provable, just like Kennedy killing Mary Jo.

There is not definitive proof of her involvement in the other deaths, but there sure is a whole bunch of coincidence.

The B-58 did have the capability to carry external ordnance. Four Mk43 nukes could be carried externally along with the big honker in the pod.

Sorry about the image size, but it would be a sin to reduce such magnificence.
