I’m glad he made it, but I would not try it for a trillion dollars and a complete set of the Sopranos.

landing almost in the middle of the 100ft by 100ft net.Watching the video, looks like he damn near missed it.

Luke Aikins, 42, a veteran of 18,000 jumps, completed the stunt without mishap, landing almost in the middle of the 100ft by 100ft net.
...
I estimate he landed 25 feet from the edge.
I bet his wife was relieved. He probably can’t get life insurance.

When I heard about this event a few days ago, I thought the odds were better than even for a “splat.”
I hope he retires from skydiving and watches his video, but I doubt he will.

"Designed by Aikins and his team, a system of approach indicator lights will keep him on target to landing site. He will see red lights if he is off course and white when on target." A bit like "calling the ball" on a carrier landing, but without the option to wave off or add power.

That is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.
It reminds me about a WW II story regarding the fearless Ghurkas. A platoon was taken up for a practice jump and the British Sgt. said “Now men, we will jump at 5000 feet.”
There was terrific unrest as the translator delivered the message.
The Sgt. said, “What’s wrong?”
The translator ss I, “Sahib, the men asked if they could jump at 1000 feet.”
The Sgt. said, “That’s too low. Their parachutes won’t have time to open.”
The translator relayed this and all the men smiled and were agreeable.”
The Sgt. said, “ What’s going on?”
The translator said, “Sahib, they did not know they were to have parachutes.”

I'd say your 25 foot guess is right -- maybe less. He rolled over on his back at the last second.
To: BenLurkin
Very cool. But really hard to do. You have to find the landing site. You have to get there. Wind is not your friend. You have to be very alert the whole way. And you have to roll on your back after you know the target is under you, at the very end.
If this is done twenty times, somebody is going splat. But there are lots of parachute, rock climbing, hang gliding, wing suited splats out there.

Too bad he made it.
This will encourage other idiots to try similar stunts, and probably get some people killed. And for what? 15 minutes of fame?
