The difference is that the never Romney folks, many of them right on FR, caused us to have 8 years of Obama while most of the never Trump folks finally joined reality and voted for Trump preventing us from having Hillary as president.
We do we assume he’s offering Romney anything?

This BS about holding your friends close, and your enemies even closer, does not necessarily work in the Washington, DC, venue.
More likely that Trump would take Hillary Clinton into his Cabinet, than to accept an alliance of any kind with Mitt Romney, considering the amount of bad blood that lies between the former rivals.
Unless Romney comes prepared to sign a truce, and withdraw from any political activity altogether.
Nothing happened but IIRC there was some talk of 0 using Romney in some capacity shortly after the election in 2012.

I bet Trump’s requirement that people agree to not lobby the government for five years after serving in his administration is eliminating some who might otherwise have been willing to take a position.

However, Trump is usually a few steps ahead of everybody else. If he's meeting with Romney about a position, there's likely a motive or reason that will reveal itself at a later time.

Being Magnanimous is one thing, but I seem to recall that W left many Clinton appointees in there positions in an effort to ease the suffering of the unfortunate losers.
