Like I keep saying at some point a few of these Free Traitors™ will need to be burned at the stake to get the message across that the people are done with their religion.

I only scanned the article, but what I saw both made some sense and mostly did not.

Trade wars can lead to devastating results. History tells us that.

That said, if we are already IN trade wars (due to deceitful trade practices from other countries) then we are already losing if we do not fight back, at least in some respects.

Prudent and diplomatic protection of our economy (A)is warranted. Hyperbolic bellicosity (B)is not.

I think, and hope, that we can safely stay in the (A) zone, if we proceed aggressively, but with a measure of caution and diplomacy. I'm okay with Trump's approach, thus far.

Trump would be better off, Brookings said, by training American workers for new jobs in advanced manufacturing or the service sector,
...........................................................
or the service sector ........................like we need more”service people” instead of being able to build things like we used to do before we were stripped and sold out by the Globalists.GTH Forbes!

Yes. Protectionism always causes an economic deadweight loss.

If that is so, why did the U.S. prosper so much with protectionist policies from 1816 to 1945.

Britain had free trade and grew at half the pace of the United States.

It involves protecting key industries with tariffs and state-directed allocation of resources, public-private partnerships and a bias towards favoring domestic over imported goods.

To the extent that it favors the national good over sectoral interests, a state capitalist economy is more predictable than a market economy.

I agree that globalist corporations should be free to offshore and import their product back to the USA. They shouldn’t however expect this aberration of duty free access to the US market to last much longer. They have to realize that they are taking a chance by offshoring no matter how much they bribe congress thru K -Street. There is a limit to corruption. The American people are closing the door on that and it’s a good thing and about time. Go Trump, go!

The author is making unfounded assumptions on Trump’s trade positions.

Only a douche bag would insist that a protectionist is somehow also in favor of a state run economy. What you are doing is trashing every single founding father and I won’t stand by and let a POS like you to do that and not push back. Now if that is not what you are doing then you have my apology up front.

For one thing, we need more tradesmen: plumbers, weders, and the like.

For anotehr, we need people in advnced fields like robotics. We need to stop importing people to do those things.

But consumers will be affected. We’ll all wind up paying higher prices to cover the tax.

Every country protects and promotes its vital industries.

Ours hasn’t. We assume they’re playing by market rules when in reality they have closed economies.

This isn’t free trade by any reasonable definition of the term.

Its somehow unAmerican to do what they do and put our workers and industries first.

If it means closing our markets to unfair competition so be it.

It’s not higher prices, it’s HIGHER TAXES!

Excise taxes are just taxes. Taxes are penalties. We levy penalties on income, property, sales, inheritance, and many more. Excise taxes can be evaded merely by buying a product or service that employs US residents. You evade the income tax by not working.

Between the income tax and the excise tax, which is inherently more positive for a country?

No. China doesn’t have a monopoly on anything.

Consumers will just buy their stuff elsewhere.
