Still snowing. My neighbor, BLESS HIM, who is up there in years and just underwent a bunch of radiation treatments, was out there snowblowing my driveway! He always does that if my hubby is on duty when it snows.
I don’t know how in heck he can be so vigorous. He did his driveway, most of mine, and his mothers (she’s over 100 yrs old) who is next door to me. How do you adequately thank a guy like that?
We got about a foot. Roads clear so off to work. We made it folks :)
Snowfall is increasing in intensity just as they said it would.
The radar is showing some heavier bands moving in now and visibility is dropping.
The snow is very fine and snowpack is very dense because of that but we may not quite get the usual snowfall totals would could have otherwise .
Very fine snowflakes at the beginning. Then it built and built, for 36 hours.
The forecast for tomorrow is going to be the lake effect that always follows these storms.
Still at 8-12 inches forecast although we all know what a crap shoot forecasting lake effect is.
I sure miss the MM5 models that were on the internet to forecast that lake bands. They were fun to watch and compare to the real event.
I still need to motivate myself to get out and shovel.
UGH!
It’s been snowing steadily here in Rome...wind blowing the snow around. Winter storm warning here until 8 p.m. tomorrow night. Lighter snowfall tomorrow all day. No sense in going out to clean the car off until tomorrow. Nobody in my apartment complex has been out yet today to clean off their cars. There’s no sense in it at this point.
WE GOT A COUPLE FRESH INCHES...More wind than snow at this time...not really cold, filled the bird feeders and made sure they have dinner for a few days...
yesterday, the media over did themselves with WEATHER all day long.
Couldn’t agree with you more.
Cuomo issues tractor-trailer ban on Thruway, interstates
Madison and Tompkins Counties are issuing travel bans for tonight.
I met a NYS Trooper once who said that he lost 3 years of his life for every winter he spend on I-81.
yup, real fine here also
the kind that could go on for a looong time
In the last hour it’s become heavier and fluffier.
More accumulation.
Yippee........
Starbucks closing at 6. What sugar babies! Kidding. It was great of them to come in and work. Thanks also to the snow shovelers. Those that could did. Supermarket shelves still a bit bare. Yellow taxis out now, doing their bit. Tourists speaking French having a snowball fight—seem like they are not familiar with snow. Wonder where they are from.
81 can be treacherous, especially through Pa. My sons and I got caught in a snow storm on 81 south in Pa., back around 1979 when we were heading to Florida (Disneyworld). I fishtailed a bit at one point, but managed to get control of the car, and the rest of the trip was uneventful thankfully. My kids still make fun of me about that drive down. They were in the backseat arguing. I yelled at them to stop, saying if they didn’t, I’d turn around and go back home. They told me years later that they knew I wouldn’t turn around. So much for threatening your kids.
You guys are having fun.
I just looked at google maps traffic.
All the interstates around Rome are one big blob of red.
"The New York State Thruway's closed, man!"
I actually did that to my kids once.
I think we were just going to the zoo, which they LOVED, and they wouldn’t stop arguing and fighting so I did turn around.
They were generally pretty good about going out cause they loved it and when we’d get home and pull in the driveway, they’d start crying. (not for the zoo episode, just on a regular basis)
Thanks guys......
Anyone
In your opinon, what is worse...
A 16 inch snow storm or a Cat. 3 hurricane?
My guess is a Cat 3, if you are in the direct hit cone say
50 miles or so either side of the eye.
Now after all this snow, once it gets warmer, it'll start falling off the building like an avalanche. Sometimes it's so bad it shakes the building when it tumbles down. I'm on the top floor, and can hear it sliding.
We're in the snow belt here...foothills of the Adirondacks!! Mohawk Valley!! The Mohawk River runs just on the other side of the complex I'm in. Fort Stanwix is about 5-8 minutes away. At least they don't have to clear the place for tourists because it's closed this time of year.
Even though the roads are bad, I'm betting there's still plenty of people at Turning Stone Casino (Oneida Indians), which is right at Exit 33 of the Thruway.
“You had reporters doing liveshots on I-380 and the obligatory footage of public workers affixing plows to dump trucks and filling them with salt.”
That must have been recently, because back in the day....
I grew up in Minnesota. I recall some big storms, but being just a kid I didn’t pay attention to all of the store runs, forecasts, etc. But I’m sure the adults did.
Although looking back I don’t think my parents were worried too much about it either though. In high-school I went with a buddy up to our un-insulated hunting shack up in Northern Minnesota to try out ice-fishing for the first time.
We woke up and the temperature was -44 degrees - it was COLD! (Frost went all the way up the walls, the pot-belly stove barely made a dent in the temperature). Looking back - what idiots we were. BUT - neither of our parents bothered to take a glance at the weather either!? Although when it came to outdoor stuff they pretty much let us have free reign.
Here in Seattle it has been raining for weeks. I’d rather have snow!
