I can’t believe people still go to the bank to deposit checks.

That would have tipped me right over the edge. Outrageous treatment.

I don't think it was even BofA policy - just the branch manager throwing her weight around.

I complied with their requests, and jumped through every hoop, because I didn't have the time or resources to make a federal case out of it. We were new to Texas, and I had children at home to feed.

Way back when we banked at Wells Fargo. We were leaving the next day on vacation so I went to the closest branch to get a bunch of cash. They had someone walking up and down the line trying to talk people out of line to use the ATM. Most were older people who predominantly don’t use ATMs. When she got to me I told her I wanted to speak to the manager. The manager came out and I told her I wanted to close every single account and safe deposit I had there because if the lady who had been trying to talk people out of line had opened up another station I would have already been done and out. And that I don’t want to do business with a company who doesn’t want to see me. I walked out with my $25k and safe deposit contents and went down the street. They were happy to see and talk to me.

Why aren’t you capitalizing letters that should be capitalized? Is the Shift key on your keyboard broken?

Heh... I silently ask that question a hundred times a day around here. The problem seems to be that people are lazy when posting from their handheld devices.

(says he, while posting from his handheld device)

BofA does not have a good reputation among FReepers. Read some of the comments on this thread.

Cancel your BofA account ASAP and get an account at a local bank, not some behemoth that has branches all over the world.

Local “hometown” bank. Only way to go.

I can’t believe people still go to the bank to deposit checks.

Every check I get, 20 to 30 per month, I photocopy on our all-in-one printer/fax/scanner/copier and then take it to our local bank. The tellers all know me by name, and are all friendly and personable. Most of them release the funds right away instead of making me wait 2 days, and they call me "Handsome Dave" to boot.

Once a week i get cash for payroll for the people who work for us, and they all know exactly what denomination of bills to give me (mostly 100s with the blue stripe).

Now just exactly why wouldn't I want to do that? And, they have chocolate chip cookies on Fridays. I keep telling them to get shrimp cocktail for next Friday, but they never do...

I started with a Credit Union a long time ago. >> amen and there was time when my local CU resisted some federal stuff. it got swallowed up. but CU’s may not need to be part of the federal system. although my guess is they will kill you when you resist. I have seen local banks closed. cops, state police, the whole nine yards. koblonk bank i think and one other.

No bank is going to accept a photocopy of a check.

You might want to google for check deposit via camera.

The OP specifically asked if he could deposit a photocopy of the (already deposited) check. Not a photograph, transmitted electronically.

I think we're talking two different things here.

So, since the first bank refused his check, he would have every right to submit it to a second bank, electronically, photograhically, and retroactively, while failing to inform either bank of the retroactivity.

That, of course, raises the question of, if, somehow, the check clears twice. But, in the story, the first bank has rejected the check, so that shouldn't be an issue.

But I would think, physically deposit to B of A, bounced, followed by deposit pic to Wells Fargo, accepted, would be OK. At least as far as banking goes. There remains the matter of the actual designated payees vs the actual title of the destination account.

But photocopies of checks are perfectly acceptable, absent fraud.

Step 1 - switch to a local credit union

Find a decent bank and open an account. When you get the checks, transfer from BoA and close the account.

I was getting feed to death by a bank 20 years ago. Switched to a Credit Union and haven’t paid a single fee since.

Do your homework on the Credit Union, and here is a list of them in your state.

I pulled my business account from BofA about 20 years ago for almost the same reason. You should see how their attitude changed when they had to write a high six figure check. Didn’t work, I still left and haven’t been back.

That’s California

I had the same thing happen with US Bank there but in Washington no problem.

When I asked the bank here about it, he says the rules are set by the branch to comply with state law.
