Anyone whos idea of a vacation is to go to a God Forsaken, Third World hell hole to live amongst the savages like a king gets what they deserve when a calamity is put upon them and they realize that there is no law or recourse.Which is why Mexico and Jamaica and Haiti and Cuba and even many Central American "cool" destinations should be avoided - too many other great options.

I know what you mean. Back in the late 70s we were camping near Big Bend and we wanted to say we had been to Mexico so we merely crossed the border and had dinner. I remarked at the time how neat it would be to do some camping across the Rio Grande. Yeah, crazy right?
In 1985, we took a trip to Acapulco and stayed a the Princess Hotel, but even then we were getting bad vibes about wandering outside the city.
