What was their motive? Apart from being crazy. Do we have something we could call a motive for those crimes, or do we just say they were crazy?
Admittedly, this guy's a tougher case because he didn't leave much of a trail in the world -- or they haven't found one, or they don't want to say what they found -- but in the absence of actual documentation by the killer, motive can be hard to establish.

NO, not GUNS.
It’s a weapon released on the public decades ago - and no one is paying attention. It’s a weapon that infects tens of thousands of people - LEGALLY INFECTED. It has a trigger mechanism that goes off in a small percentage of the carriers - but that small percentage among the tens of thousands is more than enough to fulfill the goal.
I wrote about this over a dozen years ago. the information is easily available. In fact, anyone paying attention should have put 2+2 together long ago.
This weapon uses people as unwitting agents of violence, providing the excuse for yelling “GUN CONTROL. GUN CONTROL’ - because as all would be world dictators know - first, you must get the guns. -
THIS is the real trigger - What are we going to do about it? Are we going to email, call our representatives and let them now WE KNOW? Are we going to demand they stop the delivery of this infection?
ARe we going to email the media - like all the FOX shows, Rush, letters to our local editors. Post and repost on social media, email everyone in our email addresses?
FREE REPUBLIC used to take things like this and run with it. Now, it seems, we’re just a bunch of nattering nabobs.

Maybe it is what it appears to be. Maybe someone or some few individuals don’t want to be embarrassed or even get into trouble for a previously committed impropriety.

Why would American citizens tend not to believe everything the FBI tells us?
We are beyond truth because the Truth doesn’t matter. Facts don’t matter. Everyone filters what they see and hear through their philosophical biases. Its a human trait that explains political parties. Confirmation Bias, and Disconfirmation Bias are extremely strong. Everyone is deluded in some ways by those. The better of us at least understand those things, and remain skeptical even of themselves.
We’re always beyond truth on these things because 90% of the people have their narrative and will fit the facts accordingly. As for the FBI not knowing the motives it’s quite believable they wouldn’t yet. If he didn’t write it down they’ll never know. This is one of those people watch too much TV things, in TV motives are always easy to figure out, in reality not so much.
