Seems a little weird. A brooch of a head of someone, and a white woman is wearing a black woman, as she appears with the first black princess to be? I’d think she’d have enough jewelry to not wear that one that night. It’s like that church dinner for the black community in the USA recently where they chose cotton bolls as every table’s centerpiece. Just not very brightly thought out.
The people complaining are the same ones who complain that the black keys on a piano are shorter than the white ones.
And how many American Millennials are going to see one of those and even know what it is?

The largest consumers of this particular kind of American Folk Art are wealthy, upper-middle-class Black Americans.

What a horrible, terrible faux pas, if indeed it was that.
If somehow evidence turns up that it was worn on purpose, her wedding invitation (I would imagine she got one) should be revoked.
They cost a lot (for me) but I think they are freshly made by some local people here in Clovis, CA. I'd love to get a hold of some real antique ones for my plantation. Some of the younger gals are getting kinda uppity and need the stern hand and leadership of more senior personnel.
What I REALLY want is a lawn jockey to put out on my front patio. It's kinda awesome with a Japanese maple providing shade and a couple of chairs. I need a fellow to scare off the friggin' Jehovah witnesses that won't leave me alone.
