Everyone knows Al Gore operated the original Hotel California right after he was the original guy in Love Store and right before he invented the internet.

So did they have to change the name of the hotel?

Wait.
Is that your way of making fun of Al Gore?

I never understood how the Eagles got away with using the line, prisoner of your own device, when it is clearly ripped-off from Jim Morrison (Your Lost Little Girl).

It had a sinister connotation. Just as well that Hotel California is left to metaphor status and that there’s no real one.

Poetic snippets are hard if not impossible to get copyright protection on.

Thank you. The older I get the more I understand that everything is derivative.

You're thinking of Unhappy Girl, another song on the same album. "You are locked in a prison Of your own devise"

That’s why I created an expression, “There’s nothing new under the sun.”

Nah, it’s my way of paying tribute. Not to Albert Gore, the phony. Aldo Gore (no relation), the guy who really did all those things. Not really well known, but a remarkable guy. Don’t make fun of him.

Dont make fun of him. I would never dream of it.
Aldo Gore lives in my heart and will forever.
Con mucho respecto, por vida.

Why don’t The Eagles just change the name of the song?

Thats why I created an expression, Theres nothing new under the sun. Nick, you are almost as innovative and transformative as Aldo Gore, who invented many things.
You are a credit to your race.

Well it kind of reminds me of the poor schmoe named Nissan who owned an auto service shop under his name from before the Nissan company went big. Instead of ceding the name to the historic use, they just overpowered him with barrages of barratry. Seems to me that Nissan owes him royalties.
