Some lotto winners have gotten their prize and then have deliberately gone invisible.

Isn’t is crazy that this one woman would feel so vulnerable? There are thousands of citizens as wealthy as she and they manage to live their lives safely and without all this hair pulling about scammers, bad relatives etc., etc.,
I would begin by hiring a great attorney/accountant and donating a few million to Shriners. Then live my same lifestyle with family and friends..... none of whom are vile scavengers.
If I won the lottery, I would dedicate my life to building section 8 housing and wal marts in the most exclusive lilly white gated democrat communities I could find.
I would also pay thousands of homeless people to tear down peoples like joseph kennedies or nancy peelousy’s walls and squat on their properties. I would also generously provide all legal expenses, and provide tents and 24/7 bus service to their homes.
$14K a day in lost interest is not the only thing she is losing. How old is she? With a normal life expectency, she is losing quite a bit more per day too if she considers how her life would change each day.
A guy won a 50 or so million lotto in Texas in the early 90s. He lived across the golf course from me. He collected his money and he and his family never returned they headed out to points not reported. He just put it up for sale with an agent, everything included. I admired that. I would have done the same except I would have taken my guns!!
But she is definitely increasing the interest in learning her identity. Maybe she is an illegal.
I’ve always thought that for most people, winning that kind of money would be a scourge. It’s going to be more than a full time job to manage it, watch out for people trying to cheat or sue you, etc. I think you’d probably have experiences that exposed you to the absolute worst in other people, too.
I wouldn’t want that kind of grief and responsibility in my life.

Could be. It’s possible she is from a low income background and does not pretend to have sophisticated life skills with respect to wealth and wisdom.
Hoping that she will give to the church and charity - that will give her comfort.
I think this is stupid on her part. Go get the money. There is no way to take possession of a half a billion dollars and keep it a secret.

Yes, Powerball is multi-state, but each state has laws governing collections. In New Hampshire, the law requires a single natural person to claim his or her winnings, to be photographed, and to have his or her name and town of residence listed in publicly accessible records.
Other states allow unnatural persons (before you react to that, remember that a trust is not a natural person) to claim winnings. Creating a trust and using that trust to claim winnings in states that allow that option allows a winner to shield his or her name and town of residence from the general public.
People do not read the back side of their lottery bet slips. Perhaps the woman should have read the back of the lottery bet slip before purchasing her ticket in New Hampshire.
Were I her, I would (1) open a brokerage account, (2) claim my winnings, (3) sell all real property in New Hampshire, and (4) move to a state with milder winters.

Then she should not have played. The rules are you put your name out there. I don’t understand why she cares. In a few weeks, she would be old news and a new lottery winner will have been named. I can’t name a single winner in the last 2 years. Can you? She is being selfish.

50% tax free bonds (yes even in today's rising rate environment) AA or better, with MAC/AGMC/NATRE/BAM insurance. Lots of TX PSF bonds
5% gold/silver/bullets/toilet paper/long term food/guns
10% in US Treasuries
5% foreign bonds
5% foreign equities.
I figure the mean coupon would be 5-6% which would get you approx. $5-6,000,000.00 year in income.
Only then would I gift the max IRS gift exclusion every year to friends and family (15m individual, 30m married)
That gifting could be used up to 5,500,000 lifetime gift maximum (tax free) to pay off ONLY families debt....then I would gift to my nieces and nephews and trade in my own account 3 hours a day....the rest at the golf club or shooting range drinking Laphroaig Scotch.
By the way, the 14m a day comes from the anticipated 5% yield on 5mm a year income from bonds. Just sayin.

Probably a well-heeled society type who is unimpressed by money. You’d think with millions like that she would just hire bodyguards-look up some Mossad maybe?-and cash her check. People with billions manage to live openly- they hire drivers, staff and security. Sounds like some kind of snob- or a nut.Maybe a miser type who doesn’t want to give $$ to family and the lottery would eliminate her excuses? Either way the lottery folks will gladly keep the money.
