So, after hours of research and many sites warning that if I am looking at warnings for ABS module (AdvanceTrac®) and the electric power assist steering then I am going to have to replace the steering module @ $1,500 Bucks!

Well, I ran across this idiotic video that offered the dumbest hope of saving me $1,500 Dollarin-0's!

And, I have no idea why it worked.

To reset the codes back to factory you turn the ignition to light up the instruments only, just short of starting the vehicle.

You then disconnect the negative cable from the battery, wait 5 mintues.

I removed the key from the ignition, reconnected the negative cable and it worked!!!

Voila!!!

I cannot believe it but, I had started thinking "I don't believe in coincidences. Jump Car/Other stuff dies.

No way.

So, if this ever happens to another Freeper, you now have a chance to keep your wampum.

Anyway, have an hour drive back home and I will comment on thread when I get home.

Or maybe stop at McDonalds and grab a bite then answer thread.

I replaced the $200 ignition key in the 4 runner for 19 bucks. Turns out the 4 runner has a key programmer built right in the ignition key switch. I bought a blank from Amazon and with YouTube help got it done in 5 minutes. Love that 4 runner.

I hope this works for you....!

Your description brought back memories, and not in a good way.

I had a 2009 truck which was the first year that Ford introduced EPAS (electronic steering) module to their F150 platform. It last all of 24k miles before giving up the ghost and getting it replaced under warranty.

The replacement EPAS lasted to about 38k and after a lot of haggling paid $500 out of pocket, and Ford covered the rest of the $1600 pricetag.

Soon afterwards I got rid of that truck (and Ford) and switched over to a Toyota 4Runner which has been great so far.

There are a lot of problems with the Ford EPAS system.

There may be something in the owner’s manual which tells you how to get back to the factory settings.

Reminds me of the time my car’s battery kept running down. It turns out the switch for the glove compartment light was defective, keeping the light on. Parts alone was 80 bucks. I decided instead to remove the glove compartment light — problem solved.

I had a z28 convertible. Died one day. No start. No clicks. No nothing. Needed new "computer chip" for a couple grand.

too long to explain, but a z28 board explained that it was a VAT problem (chip in ignition key). Cost me under $5 in resisters and started right up.

I owned a 1992 Honda Accord LX. The transmission was stuck in one gear. I had to drive in the right lane and the big 18 wheelers were passing me by going uphill....

I searched and searched and found a forum where people with the same issue were being told to replace that part or this part or the whole transmission. It was going to cost you a lot.

The last post was the fix and it was a free repair.
Pull the fuse out that kept electricity running to the radio when the engine was off. It also powered the computer that ran the transmission under the floorboard on the passenger side.

I pulled the fuse under the hood, waited a minute then plugged back in and went on a drive. Running like new. I had to do this twice while I owned the car from ‘99 to 2014.
Now I own a ‘new’ 2003 Honda Accord LX 4cyl. Do not buy the 6cyl because it has yep transmission problems.

I bet transmission shops knew of the fix but charged unsuspecting customers a fortune to “fix”.

#1 You did a static discharge.
Companies like Dell and HP when the caller says they cannot start the laptop have customers pull the battery and power cord then hold the power button down for over a minute to drain the capacitors on the motherboard which act like little storage batteries. Plug back cord and battery and the pc starts right up.

Fix for electronics is shutdown, restart, pull the battery.
Cars have many computers so what you did may be a fix for all electronic hiccups for cars.

To both program a new remote or a new chip encoded key on my old My Mazda 6 there are similar procedures that the Dealer does not want you to know about. “Turn key to accessories position, open and close door twice, scratch your ass, push lock button on remote” Voila’ welcome to you new working remote. Might have gotten one of the steps wrong. But you get the picture.

I have no idea why it worked

It's called "rebooting" and it is a first choice before replacing hardware or software.

Chevy Volt fast review.
I liked it. It gets 35 miles on the battery that you can charge right at your house the way my relative does. $800 for a charging station installed. You cannot get stranded because the gasoline engine kicks in after the battery runs down. It costs lots less per mile to run on electric. Maybe 1/3 the gasoline price per mile.

Their Volt has a moisture problem build up inside the car. All windows got covered with moisture, at least when I visited during the winter weather. I don’t know if this is a common problem.
