And speaking of car interiors. There are a goodly number of car models I simply can’t drive. My foot doesn’t reach the pedals even with the drivers seat pulled all the way forward.

Can I sue?

I’m dead if the airbag goes off in the car I can drive. I’m so close to the steering wheel. Can I sue?

Am I special enough to demand the manufacturers make a special car just for me for the same price as the assembly line cars for everyone else?

But I didn’t choose to be short.

I have chosen to eat what I eat and therefore weigh what I unfortunately weigh. Should I sue Kroger for letting me buy all that food?

This “lady” is getting grief because she deserves it.
A decent human being sucks it up and MOVES ON, they do NOT sue someone for stating the obvious: She is FAT and because she is fat, there will be certain restrictions in her life.

“She didn’t ask for her “own” seat.”

She wanted the bench to herself.

She’s torqued because the ride operators didn’t let her.

You think she wouldn’t be “offended” if they put up signs at the gate and in front of the rides?

It’s not that she’s offended, it’s that she’s judged to be too big and heavy to use the rides.

And she will sue them for that just as quickly. “Get bigger and better rides!”

“So would Barack Obama, Bill Ayers, and Bernadine Dorn.”

And anyone else who wasn’t a doormat for someone demanding to be treated like a special person just because she’s fat.

Why should the other customers have to sit next to sweaty smelly strangers while Elsie gets her own private seat?

Would you be OK giving up a first class airline seat you’d paid for just because you could fit in a cattle car seat and some obese person couldn’t?

I’m in the same boat for different reasons.

My Wife is five feet tall. I think we are wearing out the Power Driver’s Seat in her Car. It goes from one extreme to the other.

When I fly, the seat back is way too short. My Head is above the top of the seat. I can’t rest my head. My Wife is as comfortable as a bug in a rug while my neck is killing me.

I do actually feel for you.

When I flew my feet didn’t reach the ground on the standard cattle class seats. By the time we got to destination my legs would be asleep/numb.

My feet seldom reach the ground in normal seating configurations anywhere like restaurants, doctors offices, church, etc.

Not something I’ve chosen to be, ie, short.

Fat, sure, big choice there. Better than I was though with a BMI of 50 or so then. I’m just over the line in obese at 31 now. Because I CHOSE to alter my behavior. I didn’t demand my doctor change her waiting room seats because I was simply wedged in at a BMI of 50. I did research and figured out what eating plan works for me. I’d LOVE to lose more weight but right now my diabetes is totally in check so I’m happy with that..

No one is helping the obese when they accomodate obesity. It’s no different than enabling a drug addict.

“She didn’t ask for her “own” seat.”

She wanted the bench to herself.

She’s torqued because the ride operators didn’t let her.

Wrong.

From the story: "Angel Morales said she asked workers if she could ride the ride bench with one fewer person so that she wouldn't make anyone sitting beside her feel uncomfortable."

The bus bench looks like it fits 4-5 people side-by-side (look for videos of it on YouTube). According to the article she requested that one FEWER person be allowed on her bench so that she AND her daughters (that means she wanted at least 3 people in the row) could ride without smashing that extra person on their bench.

I'm not saying she was right or wrong to make the request, only that if we are going to discuss the case, we have to be talking about what really happened.

Why should she get preferential treatment?

Just because she’s fat?

Because if you read the WHOLE story she wants obesity to be a protected class of people.

No way.

Would you be OK with her getting a ‘free’ airline seat just because she was so big that only 3 people instead of 4 could fit in the row when she sat down?

Her butt physically occupies the space of TWO normal butts and she wants that extra space for free.

Nope.

I'm only pointing out that what she was really asking for with this ride was pretty minor, and more of a courtesy to other riders. If given a choice would you want to shoe-horn in to her row, or have a more comfortable row behind her or on the next bus? Apparently the ride operators want you to shoe-horn in.

As I said before, I think her beef is with the rides she can't physically fit on--the Harry Potter rides--and she is using this one as a lame example of the park trying to screw her.

For the record I disagree with her entire premise, I would never support giving away a free seat on an airline due to size, and I don't believe obesity should be a protected class. Just cram into the bench seat like everyone else in the world. However, for some strange reason this thread bothers me because it has been loaded with misrepresentations of her request and others have gone right to making fun of her weight rather than arguing the case on its merits.

I’ve not made fun of her weight.

I was about her size before I changed my eating habits.

The issue I have is this. If ‘we’ are forced to accomodate her size, what about the 400lb people. Or the 500lb people.

Just how much more expensive will EVERYTHING be just because fat people can’t be bothered to just put down the food?

And it wasn’t a small request. Looking around at walmart, the entire ride would have been one person per bench before long. And weight distribution DOES matter even if the ride only purports to go 1mph.

I’ll give an example. Nowadays, every wheelchair and hospital bed at our local hospital is an ‘obese’ special. They are simply huge. How much do those cost? Who, exactly, eats that cost (pun intended). How much of our increase in medical bills are due to the ‘shared’ cost of fat people? Mind you, I think the medical field is responsible for keeping people fat (with bad bad dietary advice and meds that do nothing but generate body fat (insulin for example)) from a profit standpoint. At some point there will be a ‘give’ though.

But I’m back to my original point. Obesity shouldn’t be enabled or accomodated any more than drug addiction. ‘Giving’ her the seating she requested is accomodating and enabling.

Yes, she should be fat shamed. It works. When I literally got stuck in the chair in my OB’s office and stood up with chair affixed firmly to my posterior and had to get help to detach said chair it was a wakeup moment for me. I didn’t demand special seating for my fat ass. I stopped eating what I was eating. Low carb really does work. Ditto fasting. I’ve lost 30 more pounds since Thanksgiving doing the Jason Fung ‘plan’.

I suspect this particular lady doesn’t see anything wrong with her weight and probably wouldn’t diet if you asked her. She probably likes her size and likes eating. Not every fat person wants to be a thin person. I can respect that right up until they insist I pay for their ‘hobby’ in some way. Even if a minor inconvenience. I’ll gladly be inconvenienced for someone truly disabled. I will not be inconvenienced for an unrepetant food addict. That’s not being a friend to them.
