Relax. It's really okay to post your own thoughts here. I have never understood why anyone would consider that to be vain.
Bingo! Flew into DFW many times. Taxing alone took 30 minutes in most cases. DFW sucks.
A friend was coming back from Europe in Feb. Due to the high winds against them the pilot opted to land at Gander Field and refuel. And that's only a 9 hour flight.
Let's face it - fuel management is different when you buy it by the ton.
Was William Shatner seated in a window seat in an exit row? And was there anything on the wing of the plane?
Just another case of additional fuel taxing I guess. 8>)
It might have been someone goofed on the fuel calculation, and the error was discovered while the plane was taxiing. Or it could be the forecast weather at the destination changed and the new weather increased the reserve requirement. If it was an afternoon flight, the taxi delay might have changed a daylight landing to a nighttime landing, which has an increased reserve requirement.
They reason they call it “payload” is that if you don’t pay, they won’t load it. Fuel included.
THIS!!! switched to southwest a few years ago and won’t go back
Just as an example: 3 years ago, our family (my wife, myself along with our daughter, her husband and our 2 grandsons) flew from Houston to St. John for our son’s wedding. The first leg of the trip was to Miami on United. Not problems at all, smooth as silk. From Miami, it was another story. That leg was on American. We departed 1 hour later than scheduled. Twenty minutes out of St. Thomas, we suddenly were diverted and landed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As we taxied to the terminal, we were being escorted by fire trucks and police vehicles. We came to a stop on the tarmac, some distance from the terminal building. After an interval, fire fighters boarded that front section of the plane while we were still strapped in to our seats. After about 20 minutes, the fire fighters, exited the plane and we then taxied to the terminal to deplane. At that time we were told to stay in the gate are to await further instructions. It was later told to us that there was an engine problem and that we would be boarding another plane to continue to our destination. Five hours later, we were finally on our way. Our return trip was not much better, aside from the engine problems of the diversion to San Juan. At no time did American Airlines do anything at all to make any effort to answer questions or even make an effort to at least provide meals or whatever. Only by dumb luck were we able to catch the last ferry from St. Thomas over to St. John.
Our son-in-law had NEVER flown on any aircraft prior to this, insists that he will never fly anywhere again as a result of that experience.
You might get an explanation if you go to FlyerTalk. It’s a forum for frequent flyers, pilots, FAs, mileage chasers, etc.

I was on a flight once and we had a collision on the runway. A Lufthansa flight was turning and the end of its wing destroyed our tail and vertical stabilizer. Needless to say, we did not take off. Within 20 minutes the event was posted on FlyerTalk and within 30 minutes there were pictures posted. It is a very good source of information.
BTW, I have had only good experience with American and only fly American. Before that, only flew USAir. Have to say, the food is much better now on American. Also, in case you don’t know - your DFW Admiral’s Club is closing this week.
This is why there are at least two companies proposing self-propelled front wheels on airliners. Already tested on the 737 and A320 Family planes and now testing on planes as large as the 777-300ER, this will allow airliners to run only on auxiliary power unit (APU) power even during forward taxiing until they are almost ready for takeoff. And APU’s far smaller gas turbine uses far less fuel than the main jet engines running during taxiing.
That’s a fact. If I have to fly, it will be with Southwest. No question at all.
Definitely a nitemare flight. I suppose every airline has them. I have probably flown American about 50 times. With the exception of the weird experience above.....never a problem. Thanks.
Thanks....:)
The Captain.
Thanks. On the admiral’s club, I think it’s remodeling in terminal A at DFW. DFW is crazy. different terminals, you have to shuttle, It think an Admiral’s club at each terminal..must be expensive for American there. Thanks for the info on the forum.
You have to be over 50 to remember that
DFW flights do seem to have long taxi rides
LOL... I am a big fan of Twilight Zone too. Been watchin the reruns since a little boy. Best show ever.
I have flown many times on various carriers over the years. Some airlines are better than others, no question. American used to be one that I both liked and trusted. That has sadly changed in past several years. Delta is another that we won’t fly with. They have also gone down the tubes.
