At least it’s a good start.
RIP
Yesterday I asked my wife to call (she is the call person) and report a tree that has an issue. I gave her the tree number (in Berlin many trees have numbers) and street. Problem is one large branch rubs with another (like an X) with even a slight breeze. Which makes a noise and you can see the bark is worn off. It is a very large tree. I can take a picture when I walk the puppy. The person called was thankful. There is a kindergarten across the street.
If you see something say something.
I remember WYFF from college, Your Friend Four. Greenville, South Carolina.
Nice town, nice people, this is a local newscaster out covering the heavy rains north of town above the NC line. Humor is not warranted and these are not the MSM you’re looking for. They’re part of the community. Give it a break, this was tragic.
Pure tragedy - probably felt safe and never heard the tree coming...I watched some fall out of the ground during hurricanes and it’s surreal.
EMS found the engine running and the transmission in gear. They were driving by, perhaps slowly to get video- and the timing was just right for the tree root system to give way in the wet soil. In NC the ground gets saturated (clay, loamy) and refuses water eventually- hence the flash flooding.
The speed at which something that heavy falls, even with a wind assist means there is little to no reaction time. Large enough tree by the roadside of a two lane- they never saw it as they drove into the path.
