Both choices given SUCK. But it depends on what a “workout” is. If you mostly do resistance/weight training, then your muscles need a combo of carbs and certain amino acids, specifically L-Leucine and L-Isoleucine, both of which are found in quality whey protein isolate powder. For carbs you are best with maltodextrin. there are numerous “recovery drinks” out there that do the job. Drinking gatorade (sugar water) or chocolate milk is just silly, and doesn’t give your muscles what they need to grow and avoid soreness.

My very favorite chocolate milk is from Promised Land Dairy of Floresville Texas. It is a rich, thick, delicious milk that I savor every time I drink it. It is comparable to a liquid chocolate bar.

Re: Promised Land Dairy Chocolate Milk from last comment. Promised Land Dairy Chocolate Milk contains No High Fructose Corn Syrup. The only sweetener listed is Sugar, which I can abide.

Time to exhaustion with chocolate milk drinkers was almost 1 minute longer than with nutrition-free placebo beverages and about 6 minutes longer than with sports drinks.
Interesting that placebos are about 5 minutes better in effect than sports drinks.
But I know when I’ve spent a weekend continuously running around in the woods (and gotten mildly dehydrated), that chocolate milk works great for recovery. Better than anything else I’ve found.

...
So a even a placebo is better than the expensive and foul tasting sports drinks.
I remember many years ago I exerted myself on a hot Summer afternoon, and all I could think about was getting some cold chocolate milk.

It’ll also turn a calf into a 400 pound cow in about a year. So there’s that...

You're a good wife, trisham...my wife is no help, except for an occasional harangue when I have a diet coke. LOL, I don't mind it. My routine includes a lemon-ginger-spinach smoothie after a regular 4 hour shift in a non air conditioned warehouse (5 days a week).
I dropped 20 pounds pretty quickly, the next 15 won't be so easy. Then again, maybe not, as we head into July-August North Texas weather. Visited my doc this week, labs were good: BP ideal (114/71), A1c 5.6, Cholesterol 85. BTW, my previous doctor told me that an HbA1c reading under 5 is actually bad, though I don't remember the exact reason why.
Congrats to your hubby on his weight loss.
A shout out to Wendy's: their Berry Burst salad is awesome.

"Itll also turn a calf into a 400 pound cow in about a year." Totally different genetics, metabolism, digestive system.
Plus it's a baby. It's designed to grow that fast and utilize
its mother's milk more efficiently.

#37 High Fructose Corn Syrup is used in feed for cattle to fatten them up. The companies that package High Fructose Corn Syrup do so as it encourages you to buy more of their products. A vicious cycle.
