Because as the article even states in history a man taking the last name of the woman means the woman is higher up the hierarchy than than man. The man is admitting he is a Beta. One of the more notorious examples was the husband of Elizabeth Báthory, the most prolific serial killer in history, took her name because the Bathorys were one of the most powerful families in Hungary.

Being a Christian nation, naming is paternal-based.
I have always thought the hyphenated name was stupidity. Consider the names I would have had to deal with. My last name is Weathersby. My Mother’s maiden name was Zuiderhoek. I have been planning to get a jersey with the hyphenated name Zuiderhoek-Weathersby just to make fun of the clowns.
Why stop at parents? Why not grandparents? Then my jersey would read: Zuiderhoek-Roy-Money-Weathersby.
Our culture has become ridiculous.
