I was excited about this for a few seconds, until I realized the new show would be overseen by Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman and be on CBS All Access.

They will basically do the same thing they did with Discovery: officially, for marketing reasons, the new show will be a billed as taking place “20 years after Nemesis” in the prime timeline, and be a “loose follow up” on what happened to Picard. There will be some references to events in Picard’s life during TNG like Vash, the Battle of Wolf 359, “there are four lights”, etc., etc., but they won’t go into detail or show flashbacks to TNG.

In reality, it will be set in the Discovery universe, except late 24th century/early 25th century era. The “Klingons” will match the “current” Discovery redesign and have four nostils and huge oversized teeth and bark in some weird veberated speech. The uniforms will be ultra-textured with tons of little delta shields on it, the “viewscreen” on the bridge of 24th century starships will be a huge window like in the JJ movies and Discovery, etc. We will also be subjected to tons of lens flares, dutch angles, overly aggressive MTV-style editing, and hard rock music in the trailer for Jean Luc Picard’s return.

The Berman era with TNG/DS9/VOY were all consistent with what “future uniforms” of the late 24th century/early 25th century will look like. The new show will simply ignore that and come up with their own unique thing that looks nothing like a post-Nemesis uniform. There’s also no way they are going to painstakingly recreate the props, set designs, or makeup designs from Berman Trek. They will claim that’s “90s television” and “wouldn’t work for 21st century audiences”. They will have the people who work on Discovery “re-imagine” them.

Picard will be retconned to be a huge admirer of “the great 23rd Starfleet officer Michael Burnham” (he’ll suddenly love her 10X more than Dixon Hill), and they probably do an crossover episode with Sonequa Martin-Green as “Special Guest Star” where Picard interacts with a holographic recreation of Burnham “early in her career aboard the U.S.S. Discovery” and the whole conversation is a not-so-subtle advertisement to get the audience to tune into STD to learn about the “events” Picard is referencing. STD fanboys will gloat about it and say stuff like “If Discovery isn’t canon, then how come CAPTAIN PICARD admires Michael Burnham? You can’t get any more “true” Star Trek than PICARD himself!” blah blah blah.

In short, there’s no way Kurtzman will give us a legit follow-up to TNG.

Bank on it.

It is a treat to watch it with my friend in assisted living. That is enough. Thank you though.

Wow, you really hate Discovery. You refuse to accept it as canon and part of the “prime” universe, eh? I doubt there will be more than a passing reference, if any, to it.

I loathe the freaky new Klingon look (it makes sense that they look more alien but they are fugly, you can’t tell humans would ever mate with that and the previous look was too well established to change) but it’s no different than the first change in their appearance thanks to an increased makeup budget which Enterprise “explained”. The could have just ignored it for “Trials and Tribble-ations” but they went and pointed it instead. I wonder if Worf is gonna make an appearance in this new show, Dorn sounded interested in returning to the role, if so that poses a dilemma about the makeup.

Who wants to see flashbacks of TNG? You can just watch the TNG. I want to see new stuff.

As for the uniforms, who really cares what “future” episodes had them looking like. The the problem with “future” episodes is the future hasn’t happened yet and is always changing, they are just a plot device. As I recall most of those designs sucked anyway.

I’m presuming Picard is not the focus of the show, he’ll be a reoccurring Admiral I would guess. I just hope he finally got some of that ginger mound from Bev.

What I don’t like is they are bound by JJ Abrams destroying Romulus, I wonder how that will factor in, if at all.

I hadn’t noticed Discovery is set after “The Cage”, making it’s radically different uniforms curious. They would switch from the Cage unis to those, to the TOS (just an updated version the Cage unis) unis in such short order.

I wanna know who decides such things, in universe I mean. Are there a bunch of gay fashion designer admirals constantly fighting over it?

That’s a frighteningly accurate assessment that will probably occur. I haven’t seen as much as an entire scene of Faux Trek: Dicksuckery, nor do I intend to. This has all been an abomination to the original franchise. It’s like a really bad Mirror Universe SJW fascist horror that should be utterly destroyed from top-to-bottom, never to be mentioned again.

Ginger mound ? More like a snow mound at her age. I never really cared for the leading actresses on TNG, they had literally zero sex appeal to me. Gates McFadden was a stiff, Marina Sirtis was a big meh and Denise Crosby was too dikey (but her appearances AFTER her character got killed gave her better material and was more interesting to watch).

I have actually seen it, all of it, on a pirate site cause I ain’t paying CBS. It certainly has it’s flaws and is not what I would have done with a new Trek prequel series, but it’s not anywhere close to provoking these kind of “It’s the Mitt Romney of Star Trek, I want it dead!!!” feelings in me as it does in you and Bill. I wouldn’t even necessarily say it’s “bad”.

Gates did nothing for me, not that she was ugly or anything. But she did for Picard! I’m sure they can fix gray hair in the future (hell they can now with dye), Picard is only bald out of liberal hubris in refusing to believe that not being bald is a superior condition.

Councilor Troi was a stupid character but ShWINg!! Sirtis was a hot piece. I liked it when that ahole temp Captain made her wear her uniform though.

Tasha’s SISTER was hot as hell. Tasha looked hot when she got high and screwed Data.

I liked Michelle Forbes, too bad she wasn’t on more.

Still, I’d kill STD with fire.

You can have Marina and her big butt. Michelle Forbes was too bitchy. Tasha’s sister’s portrayer, Beth Toussaint, was quite beautiful (albeit looked nothing like Denise Crosby). She was on later episodes of “Dallas” playing George Kennedy’s daughter. I thought that so many of the women on these shows looked matronly (the awful teased-out hairstyles of the ‘80s and ‘90s didn’t help. It made the women look too old).

Sirtis was attractive but boy did the wardrobe department do her no favors. Her ugly gray suit in Season 1 made her dreadful to look at, and it didn’t help that she was very stilted in that season, too. Ironically, getting her in the regular uniform in season six was the best move the producers made.

The producers obviously knew Beth Toussaint was hot because in that episode they stuck her in a tight blue catsuit after a while!

I noticed Gates played Doctor Crusher quiet differently in season 1. She seemed younger, more energetic, more frazzled at times. When she came back in season 3 she acted older and more composed.

I was never crazy about Sirtis, but when they put her in that gray suit with matching severe hairstyle, they really fuglified her. Even Jolene Blalock was forced to wear that awful butch wig which defeminized her.

As for Beth, she looked like she could be Seven's sister...
