“Remington 870 Wingmaster.
My 45 year old one came with a 30 inch barrel.”

I was going to say scour Cabelas gun library for an older 870 when they were still making them right. Can probably find a 30” barrel.

I used to have a ithica mag 10. Best shotgun I ever had. I reloaded my own after having MEC make me a reloader for it.

When all the 12 ga boys quit shooting, thats when I started.

I loaded 7 1/2 shot into 3.5 inch.

Then I would go with the Rem 28 and choke it.

You will get more range than 3in with 32in barrel. And hit harder with heavier shot.

3.5in with #4 is a devastating load, with range. Geese at 200ft if you can hit them.

But your shoulder will pay dearly. Especially if shooting up.

Get the Remington and add an extended choke tube if you want another inch or so of barrel length. Some, like the Kick’s High Flyer, are designed with heavy goose loads in mind.

With the current rage of a short barrel shotgun, you might be able to find one in a pawn shop. Make sure it is chambered for 3". Many of the old ones were 2 3/4.

My favorite pump has always been the 870. It feels better in my hands and the action seems crisper.

Despite that the only pump I now own is a Winchester 1200. It has always performed perfectly so I can’t really knock it.

Benelli Super Black Eagle III or II, pricey but worth every penny.

As far as pumps go, most are adequate.

What does that have to do with goose guns?

I’d go with the option of 3.5 shells. Make sure the choke is good for steel shot.

Thank you for you input. REM 870 it is, full choke, chambered for 3.5.

Maybe I’ll post photos.

Those geese look tasty~!

I have a friend who says they cooked one once and found it too greasy. I think it is just a matter of how it’s cooked

Some asian five-spice marinade and cooking long and slow (at least 4 hours) would do the trick wouldn’t it?

(that’s what they use to cook duck)

Since you asked. I prefer Beretta for my shotguns. Reliable as hell and very fast cycle time.

Sorry to disagree. Longer barrel does make a difference. Longer range.

I much prefer the Winchester; ergonomically, it’s smoother for me to rest my trigger finger on the safety, and move it backwards for a shot after releasing the safety. That, and the slide release behind the trigger. Both are opposite in the Remington, as you know. Have a 1300 for home defense, and the controls are second nature.
