I don’t know if other states can prevent you from legally claiming it through a trust, though. There was a case in New Hampshire where a winner got a judge to authorize permanent anonymity, even though NH state law specified that winners must be public AND the winner had signed the ticket.
So maybe it is still open to some legal battles in other states if someone wins and plays their cards right with a lawyer and private trust set-up.
I already have a financial planner picked out for that. My first wife used to work for him at the John Hancock. Good guy, originally from Michigan, he met his wife when they were working for Billy Graham. I’d recommend him to anybody.
Lucky for me, I live in one of those states.
I think that it is ridiculous that winners should be publicized. There are way too many problems with that, from leeching relatives to strangers who would scam them for everything.
I’ve got an idea on how to somewhat protect your privacy. The minute you win, legally change your name (it would probably take about two months to finalize) to something like John Smith or Jane Smith. Collect your prize and then go back to court and change your name back to the original.

I agree, but I think the attitude of the lottery officials is they want the PR of showing big winners at lottery press conferences. I would certainly want to remain anonymous if I ever won something big (not that I play the lottery anyway, ha ha).

2. Do not tell anybody not even your family.
3. Live your lifestyle relatively the same with the exception of things that make it better. I will have a maid to clean my house every day but not much else.
4. You now have the money to live extravagenly but keep this extravagance very low key if you do this.
5. Do not lavish great gifts on your family or friends while you live, it will probably destroy them. If they need a little help that is okay. When you die give them amounts that you deem worthy based on their life and merit.
6. If you do all 5 above you will have huge amounts of money when you die. Plan wisely on how to use this money for good.

Hey - I think Old Joe Kennedy and Howard Hughes were pursuing meaningful occupations - the same can’t be said for the Clintons. They strut around strictly for the $$$ they can generate for themselves and themselves only! No two ways about it. How do TWO people get so greedy? What on earth was in their backgrounds that make them pursue the almighty dollar so emphatically? Two people from two very different backgrounds, two different locations and they just happened to meet one day to join together to destroy the USA and become very wealthy in the process? I always believed that if not for Hillary, Bill would have been homeless under a freeway bridge. Not that she was all that bright or successful - just that he didn’t have that ambitious itch she had/HAS!
I don’t begrudge the Kennedys anything regardless of how the old man earned it. He wasn’t alone in that era - he just went about it big(ger) time! The Clintons are out and out crooks and don’t care who knows it as they’ll thumb their noses at us all the way to their bank accounts. Howard Hughes may not have been an angel either but I don’t think dirty/underhanded tricks were his baliwick. He earned fortunes legally and managed to hide them very well - FOR YEARS!
