"Smoke on the Water."

So got to hate that rift, but once the drums kicked in, definitely a killer intro. Would place it in a top 10.

"Can’t You Hear Me Knockin by the Stones is one of my faves"

Without a doubt. I can hear Richards lead in right now where he pauses and comes back and out numerous times, and then Watts easily comes in on drums with an original rock/jazz beat. Good choice.

As pointed out on this thread, THE STONES had some of or the best intros to their songs in Rock n Roll history. The Beatles not so much.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned “Day Tripper” or “Ticket to Ride”...but Day Tripper particularly has that magnificent riff opening.

No one has mentioned has mentioned the long intro to “Locomotive Breath” by Jethro Tull either.

"Can’t You Hear Me Knockin by the Stones is one of my faves"

Another good intro by the Stones was "Under My Thumb" on the Aftermath album. Not as hard or good as "Can't You Hear Me Knockin", but it work for the song. Ever heard the intro to "Flight 505"? It's a kickass keyboard intro. If you like the Stones, you have to own Aftermath. They were frigging geniuses while the Beatles were still doing bummble-gum pap.

Really?: I want to Hold Your Hand; PS, I Love You; She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah - WHO CARES other than simple-minded teenage girls? I will give them kudos once they matured into Sgt. Peppers. But they never had any soul to their songs, where the Stones did from the beginning.

The Stones were doing covers of Bo Diddly, Muddy Waters, etc. on their first two albums. Ever wonder why their song "Mona" sounds so similar to Bo Diddly? Then you got originals "Play With Fire", "Heart of Stone", "The Last Time, and the universally known, "SATISFACTION" on their third album, "Out of Our Heads".

You can find Stones songs on just about any Jukebox in the world. Good luck finding a Beatles song. Also, their songs are use in more movies that any other band. "Gimme Shelter" is probably THE most used rock song ever, if only the intro.

You do realize that the Stones' first big hit was a cover of The Beatles' "I Want To Be Your Man"?
