Listening to it right now. Forgot about that long complex rocking intro. Mellencamp was a hell of a song writer.

I’ll toss in “Waitin’ For the Wind” by Spooky Tooth.

Duane Allman played on that recording too. I am not sure, but who actually did the intro?

"Don’t forget Born on the Bayou."

Wow. Another classic intro I missed. I can listen to that repetitious song any time. Even though the bridge lead was weak, it had a counter to the song melody that made it work.

I agree with you, daler.

(By the way, what are some of your own favorite R&R songs / song intros?)

I could start with Robin Trower’s “Bridge of Sighs.”

Include "Cry To Me" in your list from "Out Of Our Heads" album. Written by Bert Russell. Most people haven't heard this heart-wrenching song by the Stones. Jaggers' early voice was perfect for this song.

When your baby leaves you all alone
And nobody ... calls you on the phone
Doncha feel like crying Doncha feel like crying like crying like crying
C'mon baby, cryyy to me

When you're all alone in your lonely room
And there's nothing ... but the smell of her perfume
Doncha feel like crying like crying
Doncha feel like crying like crying like crying
C'mon baby, (c'mon) cry to me

Nothing could be sadder than a glass of wine alone
Loneliness loneliness, it just a waste of your time
But you don't ever you don't ever have to walk alone you see
So c'mon take my hand .. c'mon walk witha me

When you're waiting for a voice to come
In the night there is no one
Doncha feel like crying
Doncha feel like crying like crying like crying
C'mon baby, cry to me

C'mon baby ... that's right ... cry to me
Yes, I want you to come on baby
C'mon c'mon cry to me
I want you to c'mon baby ... c'mon, c'mon and cry to me

Yeah c'mon baby c'mon I want you to cry cry cry to me
Yeah I want you to cry cry cry cry cry cry cry
I want you to cry cry cry cry cry cry cry cry...

The Intro to “Over The Hills And Far Away” by L.Z. is still to this day my Favorite Intro to a song. “Achilles Last Stand” by them also. And “L.A. Woman” by The Doors.

Well, Scott, you just did!

Great songs/intros all!

Too many for one person to tally!

No!
Dreamboat Annie is one of my all time favorite albums. EVERY song is well-done. How many acts today write, play and perform their own music? Their talent amazes me.

Not bad for couple military brats. And girls in a male-dominated field.

I agree—their politics suck. I wish they’d stay out of it.

One of my all-time favorites by Rainbow/Dio. Here’s one I found to be quite good by Dio’s replacement, Graham Bonnet, a solid vocalist in his own right.

And a couple from Dio while I’m at it.

Well, thanks. And that’s a pretty cool factoid.

Music is a quite big deal for me, but in some ways from a little different angle as you and your friend. ;-)

I’ll PM you when I get a chance.

No one has mentioned has mentioned the long intro to “Locomotive Breath” by Jethro Tull either.

Actually, see #118. :-)

The percussion work in the intro of “Caroline” (Fleetwood Mac) is kinda fun, too.
