Looks like the Florida state constitution will let him do it. Fear of the “race card” I am sure stays his hand.
He should do it, he allows them to win his political career is over. In my state the county officials are very independent.

I looked up the Florida state statutes regarding this. In Florida the Governor has the authority to fire an elected official. Basically, the grounds for removal are:
(d) Grounds for recall.—The grounds for removal of elected municipal officials shall, for the purposes of this act, be limited to the following and must be contained in the petition:
1. Malfeasance;
2. Misfeasance;
3. Neglect of duty;
4. Drunkenness;
5. Incompetence;
6. Permanent inability to perform official duties; and
7. Conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude.
Of course the entire process, according to the law, is much more convoluted than that.

I keep thinking / hoping / wishing that there’s more going on behind the scenes and under the radar than we realize.
