Complete title - "'Parents need to hold kids accountable': Ohio dad forces his 10-year-old daughter to walk FIVE MILES to school in freezing weather after she was kicked off school bus for a second time for bullying"

Nothing wrong with this punishment. Better than a parent who blames the school.

In first grade my friend and I missed the school bus because we were sidetracked by picking up the most beautiful horse chestnuts. Dad called the town cop and had him drive us to school in the police car. (Small town. One cop. Friend of Dad’s.) First grade ... we were terrified. It never happened again!

They don’t make bullies like they used to. The bullies on my bus were big guys who had failed several grades and came from dysfunctional families. You didn’t dare wear a hat because it would be snatched off and thrown around the bus. And they always had their little sidekicks who went along with them to avoid getting bullied themselves.

I remember one incident where a black guy got on the bus and one of the bullies had his leg propped across the aisle totally blocking the way. The guy came to the leg and pulled a long knife out of his pocket, opened the blade and put it blade down across the offending leg, stepped over and proceeded down the aisle unmolested.

When I see stories like this I think to myself, ‘how the hell am I reading about crap like this?’ Then I remember it’s 2018 and the Dad himself put it social media, and some 24 hour news cycle outlet desperate for any old gunk disseminated it.

The Daily Mail published this? No wonder Brits are going soft.

Sounds completely appropriate to me. Better to nip her behavior in the bud than to draw the mess out. Driving her to screwl won’t make any impression on her at all.

“Dad forces daughter to walk 5 miles to school in freezing weather “

probably uphill both ways too ... it certainly was when i had to walk to school and though only about a mile, it seemed like five ...

Feb 1, 2014 - Alabama neurosurgeon walks 6 miles through (snow) storm to save patient: https://www.foxnews.com/health/alabama-neurosurgeon-walks-6-miles-in-snow-storm-to-perform-brain-surgery

This is a great story!

Dad must have known that she could walk - maybe someday she will use the experience for something good.

36 degrees?

I might not see that kind of warmth again until March or April!

In my day... we walked ten miles uphill (both ways!) to school during blizzards barefoot with barbed wire wrapped around our feet for traction. :)

Actually the kid deserved it and since dad followed to make sure nothing happened to her it was a good lesson.

As long as she is properly dressed, and the area is safe, then how is this different than how many children - even under 10-year-olds - walked to school in colder climates than 36f before there were school buses? Except they did not have a parent slowly following them as the father did here.

But the father is now likely to have a visit from child services investigating charges of child abuse. And the bus driver who kicked her off likely will get some heat also.

And sadly, even some conservatives think such discipline is not part of building character, but is itself bullying.
