They have a tough job. Be nice, always the best policy.
Here you go:
Guys like to flirt with attractive women. It's part of our nature. It's what makes companies want to put attractive women in customer-facing jobs.
If having attractive women results in complaints about male attention, it will result in companies deciding to not hire attractive women. This creates an incentive for unattractive women to increase their market value by making a big deal about harassment.
Note that I am not excusing nor condoning men who perform actual illegal acts against women.
I saw a sign at Surigao airport, Philippines, advertising openings for flight attendants. It gave acceptable age, height, and weight ranges, and asked for a pleasant personality, good complexion, and a nice set of teeth.
[Well this one is still around, but the hot pants and boots of the 70s are long gone....:^)]
Your response is a non sequitur, because my comments weren't about flirting. The behavior described in this article groping and other physical contact without consent are "illegal acts against women".
You would probably have a negative response to somebody saying "women need to stop being sluts".
Yes, some men grope. Some men murder and engage in acts of genocide, too (and women do various illegal acts too). Yet saying "men (as a class) need to learn to control themselves" is not a productive plan.
It's not the only problem. "Patronizing" the "products" of abusive pimps and human traffickers is even worse.
I don't hate men or group them all into this class, but I read articles about this or the billions men spend on prostitutes every year in this country alone, not to mention what I've seen on the streets, and I don't like what I see. Do you?
With God's grace men can be better than this.
I, I, I. . . I. . . can’t even.
THere’s nothing wrong with those outfits.
Yup I look forward to my Emirates business class flight this month :).
Not all of them. We’re fallen creatures. Moreover the bad ones were made that way.
Dutch women can be gorgeous.
Below are job requirements from an actual classified ad from the NYT in 1966 for a stewardess:
A high school graduate, single (widows and divorcees with no children considered), 20 years of age (girls 19 1/2 may apply for future consideration). 5'2" but no more than 5'9", weight 105 to 135 in proportion to height and have at least 20/40 vision without glasses
In fact, a major recruiting point for the airlines was that a young attractive woman could find herself a husband working for their airline. She could then move on, have some babies, and make room for the next young pretty woman to have her chance. The whole "coffee, tea or me" way of putting it is rather vulgar but in reality, the airlines did not discourage at all the notion of stewardesses finding themselves a husband among the passengers. Having attractive stewardesses - all of which were available - no doubt helped the airlines sell tickets and so they would vie for the prettiest young ladies to join their crews.
It was a simpler time in America, where women were encouraged to "have adventures" early on but were then expected to find a husband, have some children and spend the rest of her days as a happy housewife and mother.
Which comes back to my post #4. Back in those days of high prices, a lot of the passengers were businessmen. Being a stewardess would allow an attractive woman an opportunity to meet successful professionals, chat with them in a relaxed setting, and perhaps arrange to meet them in a destination city where the businessman would be alone in an unfamiliar place, but where the stewardess would know places to go and things to do.
My son is drop dead attractive.
He is 23 and the attention he gets from females is embarrassing for him, and he is no shrinking violet.
They walk up to him at gas pumps and in stores. He walks backwards a lot to avoid their touch. They discuss his appearance. Some are more forthright.
They may be attractive women, but he is wary of women who are aggressive in that manner.
He reasoned to me, hell if they are doing this to me, where else have they been?
Yuck.
It was also a time where men and women from different education backgrounds teamed together to make a family.
Marrying in your education cohort was not necessary because back then it was admitted that one parent, mostly mom, would stay home with the children while dad provided.
So Lawyers married nurses, Doctors married nurses and teachers, and so forth.
