It’s not Orthodox Jews generally. It’s limited numbers, mostly connected to only a couple of rabbis.

Orthodox Jews are used to rejecting current cultural norms, so they are a bit susceptible to any ‘alternative’ or holistic claims.

There is a widespread effort right now by the most well-known ‘ultraorthodox’ rabbis to mandate vaccinations.

Doctors knew more about how to treat measles back in the day. I remember my mother keeping the room dark; there is a danger to the eyes.

These diseases were nothing to laugh off.

We have to give the vaccines one at a time. If it costs more in terms of physicians’ time, so be it.

Yet another reason for re-establishing an 'Ellis Island' type of facility
to minimize international disease control here in the USA.
Disease only being but one of the myriad of problems of international travel, and immigration.

I've read that too :

Low prevalence of autism seen among Israel’s minorities (click)

Recent numbers from the United States indicate that among 8-year-old children, an average of one in 88 have been diagnosed with a disorder falling within the autism spectrum. In Canada, a recent estimate for children ages 6 to 9 who have been diagnosed is 1 in 94. Israel’s prevalence is much lower. In 2010, 1 out of 208 children under the age of 12 were recorded as having some form of autism.

More research is always needed. But as so many intelligent people have claimed for decades now, there is almost certainly a link between vaccinations and autism. I would not argue that all vaccines are bad. Nor would I argue that any autism is good. We need a common sense minimal vaccination schedule that truly caters to the health of the children and not the purse of drug companies.

Differences in Autism Spectrum Disorders Incidence by Sub-Populations in Israel 1992-2009: A Total Population Study

There are problems with diagnosis and reporting in these subpopulations:  The IA population is an ethnic minority in Israel, and the UOJ population is a cultural minority that chooses to strictly maintain the Jewish religious law and distinguish themselves from modern life. Traditionally, mental disorders in these populations may be stigmatized and, especially in the UOJ population, might also negatively affect other family members’ arranged marriage processes. IA and UOJ populations also tend to have lower trust in state agencies, and might minimize their contact with government institutions. These factors might reduce ascertainment of ASD in those communities and their awareness of the relevant benefit.

And, difference in rates of ASD may only be a matter of timing:   Our findings indicate a sharp rise in ASD incidence rates over time in Israel with a timing that differs by different Israeli sub-populations. Intriguingly, among the GP the rise in rates appears to end around 2004. The difference in timing of the trends by sub-population is compatible with differences in awareness or acceptance of ASD in the different groups playing an important role in the rising incidence trends.

I’m old enough to have had both kinds of measles, chicken pox and mumps as a lad. No vaccines for them back in the day. For most kids, these diseases were a week off from school in a darkened room (measles), lots of itchy bumps (chicken pox) and swollen glands under the jaw (mumps). No big deal, just a part of childhood, unless you were one of the unlucky ones that didn’t survive them.

Oddly, though, kids dealt with these ailments much better than adults. Measles can cause pregnant women to miscarry, chicken pox can kill adults and mumps are no laughing matter for adult men.

Vaccines were developed for all of them and the diseases are beginning to pass from living memory. Our Gang/Little Rascals would have a kid paint dots on himself to get out of school. People under 50 won’t get the joke.

Are you saying it intelligent NOT to vaccinate your children for diseases?

The lower prevalence is only statistically significant in the arab population (IA). It is not in the ultraorthodox jew (UOJ) population:

...while the time trend for ASD was significantly different for IA (p<0.001) but not for UOJ (p>0.1) in comparison with the GP (Online Resource 1).

WHAT???? You had measles while adulting?? Oh. My bad. I had them when I was 29. Yes, I, too, was surprised!

Funny but my boy child didn’t get them then.

From the study you cite:

Overall, 9,109 ASD cases among 2,431,649 children were identified (with ASD) in Israel

With Autism rates in the US at one in 59 among children aged 8 years in 2014 (or 1.7 percent) Johns Hopkins the rate in Israel is 0.003791%, which is dramatically less.

My kids are all vaccinated but I steadfastly refused their having the combined MMR vaccine that is banned in Israel, France, and Japan for a high mortality and side effect rate.

Instead they received separate vaccinations for each disease and the vaccinations were spread out over a period of two years.

I also insisted on mercury-free vaccinations since they are available.

I mean why put mercury in your body if you don’t have to?

I was vaccinated against the measles when I was a kid and still contracted them.

be interesting to see the criteria they were using for dx.

Or whether they were just taking already diagnosed cases and counting.

I slow-boated the vaccines with the most important first. which was the pneumonia, then polio, then MMR. Took about 5 years to do the two year stretch. No chickenpox, no social disease vaccines, Just the basics. Lots of time between each one.

Yeah well intelligent people use to claim rats spawned automatically when hay was left in a damp place. Connecting things with no concept of cause and effect is called superstition.

From the study you cite:

Go ahead and read the whole thing. It's all about diagnosis rates and timing.

PS, the study I cited is the basis for the article you posted.

“ I remember my mother keeping the room dark; there is a danger to the eyes.“

One of the symptoms of the disease is photophobia (sensitivity to light).
