Yes... the V8 Pinto was just flat dangerous. lol
We took a wagon the same as yours with the cast iron German 2000 motor and did similar to what you did. We shaved and ported the head, Put a cam in it, headers, and machined an aluminum plate adapter for the intake and mounted a set of 4 aftermarket large bore rejetted Mikuni carbs for a bike on it.
This was in Ca, but a little town and we only had to smog for a transfer. We dyno tested it at just under 300HP around 8k. Now that did very well because it wasn’t heavy in the corners but it also did not like wet, You just didn’t think about starting it if it looked like rain. lol

Right out of the box that was a screamer. British gone Shelby. And the 289 was a fantastic motor for quite a few years. Had several fords with the 289. The Mustang with the 289 was hard to beat in the street brackets for years, and the Tiger was even lighter. :)
About as crazy as my Z car with the 350 in it.
I remember those CHP ambush smog check things. It was funny, they would set them up in a spot where you could not turn left or right after you spotted them. End of the day, the road in front of the check station would have “broken down” cars parked all over the place.
Later on they had those stealth “sniffers” on freeway onramps checking your exhuast gas and taking a picture if it came out illegal.
Those biennial smog checks before license renewal pissed me off. They were not interested in how clean your exhaust was, just what epuipment violations they could find.
Mostly it is the relation of the valve size to cylinder diameter.
Also, piston acceleration.
The rods tend to stretch and PULL apart.
I saw a great video on this engine with the project leader. The thing sounds like a genuine F1 engine. The design of the engine block and brackets are designed as part of the chassis system. It’s really an amazing work of engineering.

The early Sunbeam Tigers came with the 260 V-8. They went to the 289 when they ran out of the 260’s.
Great little Car. Back in the 60’s, my Brother was cut off by a guy on the 405 Freeway when he was driving one. The guys Bumper hit the left headlight surround ring and the next thing he knew the Tiger was spinning around doing 70 MPH.
The Tiger didn’t flip (because it had such a low center of gravity) and when he went around a few times and finally stopped the engine was still running. He shoved it in first gear and got out of the way of a Truck that was heading right towards him.
His Girlfriend sitting in the passenger seat was not amused.
The only damage to the Car was that headlight ring.
Yea i was thinking about that mobile home, the garage, the trailer, the expensive cars, his little buddy with the cash to buy his own expensive cars, the big $$$ aftermarket stuff....”Hey Look a Salvage Vette for only 30 grand!, lets put 20 grand worth of turbo equipment in it and blow it up at the track!” etc...
i think i read that he is either a law student or actual lawyer and his dad is a very successful one.

Doug DeMuro is ok but he gets on my nerves sometimes.
a really successful youtuber and acts like a car pro but often times comes across as totally naive about auto features like being fascinated by car “quirks” like radio equalizers, locking gas caps, high beam foot switches on the floor next to the brake etc...
Yet another guy that seems to have tons of $$$ buying Ford Gt’s, Aston Martins, Trips around the country including places like Dubai..
I will look them up. I’m restoring a 57 Bel Air and a 67 Camaro, so I understand the work involved. And the money when yo start throwing high end stuff at it.
Alas, my budget is much much more modest. Still, I sometimes score by fishing Craigslist nationwide for parts.

Did the multi leafs on the Camaro, it’s a convertible. Needs subframe connector big time. Needs posi. I put in a th400 when I did the engine (which is stout), but I think the torque converter is bad.
The Merlin produced max HP at around 3,000 RPM. These screamers at 11,000 RPM.
With the conv. you got those spring loaded shaker boxes on the corners to deal with.
Is that the reason for the subframe connectors?

If you are so jealous about my 57 Bel Air, where were you when I was crawling under it in the cold at the curb doing the control arms bushings, ball joints and Wilwood barkes? Starter too, I had to sawzall out the long tube headers. Thought I was going to die doing it myself.
