I'm guessing that Steve sealed his Social Justice fate with this photo. Even those oh-so-fashionable Persol sunglasses can't bail him out of Toxic Masculinity Jail.
How about the old Black Anesthesiologist giving testimony and didn’t know what a Code Blue was.
James Mason was his usual amazing self.
Great cast.
One of Newman’s best.
William Powell, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart...
He forgot about “Slapshot” also, one of my favorites with Newman as Reggie Dunlop.
That was my Father’s favorite Paul Newman western. That line from the film, “You don’t eat, you don’t drink and you don’t sleep, what are you?”
My father’s other favorite western just chock full of Toxic Masculinity was the 1966 picture “The Professionals”, with Burt Lancaster, Lee Marvin, Woody Strode, and Robert Ryan, now that was a cast.
Paul Newman was a good (though not great) actor, but never my idea of a man’s man. He was a leftist, and it showed. I suppose if I were a female (you know, XX cis-whatever), I would think differently.
John Wayne, Ward Bond, Clark Gable, James Stewart, were the ones I admired as a young boy.
I did admire his apparent fidelity.
Yep. The real men were from before.
Clint Walker once pierced his own heart with a ski pole in a downhill accident, and according to what I have read and heard, pulled if out and hung on till he could be hospitalized.
That is toughness. And he as a conservative.
I would say Leftists even 40 years ago, were still for the most part, Pro-American.
Can’t say that about today’s leftists.
Yes. Male sex symbols nowadays are Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper. Decent actors, but... seriously?
Some were. And some directors.
Good list. William Powell was one of my favorites: intellectually masculine, rather than physically. Great dignity and humanity (and understated wit) in My Man Godfrey.
Overall, I would probably choose James Stewart first. He could convey the full range of masculinity, from self sacrifice to ruthless selfishness, and do it all convincingly.
You may be right, but when I just a kid I never knew anyone’s politics, I just liked movies so I never missed any with Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, John Wayne and so many others.
Today it seems I am keeping a list of those whose movies or TV shows I now refuse to watch because of their insane politics.
“Today it seems I am keeping a list of those whose movies or TV shows I now refuse to watch because of their insane politics.”
Not me. If an actor does a good job,in other words, gives me what I pay for, I could not care less what his politics are.
I don’t care what the politics of my surgeon or airline pilot are either.
They provide a product/service that I want or need.
.
It matters to me if they are really out there such as Rosie or Jane Fonda. If they are just typical Hollywood then I just grin and bear it.
It also matters about my Dr. Fortunately mine is a fine Christian.
