OJ might argue he is the best on the field and off the field. 😂

Well he certainly could slash his way through defenses.

Two observations...

1) you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying hard enough

2) it ain’t cheating if you don’t get caught

Jim Brown was the greatest.

As a life long Stiller fan, I have to admit that Jim Brown was the best running back...ever.

Show me a runner that averages 5.2 yards per carry. That means he will get you a first down with just 2 carries, every time {on average}.

The game ain't played by using averages, but no one is close and JB never missed a single game.

The rumored ( no actual witness of them doing so, or of film, and the article alleging it was retracted because there was no actual source) filming was of red zone offense walkthroughs - which the Rams were 2-0 in.

Just a team getting outsmarted and viewing it as magic.

Re: Jim Brown, Greatest Football Runner Back Ever

I recall the first time I ever saw Jim Brown play was in the 1957 Cotton Bowl where he gained 136 yards on 26 carries, scored three touchdowns and kicked three PATs. Granted, he had one PAT blocked that allowed TCU to win 28-27, but his play was fantastic.

Even then he had that punishing running style that when he went down, it was a nasty chore to tackle him, especially one on one. The he'd take his time getting back up and walking back to the huddle only to come charging full blast right back.

I was ten years old at the time, along with my dear old Pappy, a TCU - Southwest Conference fan and could still be impressed as Dad said that Jim Brown one hell of a running back.

And he proved it in the NFL playing for the Cleveland Browns and as noted on his Wikipedia page:

After nine years in the NFL, he departed as the league's record holder for both single-season (1,863 in 1963) and career rushing (12,312 yards), as well as the all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (106), total touchdowns (126), and all-purpose yards (15,549). He was the first player ever to reach the 100-rushing-touchdowns milestone, and only a few others have done so since, despite the league's expansion to a 16-game season in 1978 (Brown's first four seasons were only 12 games, and his last five were 14 games).

Brown's record of scoring 100 touchdowns in only 93 games stood until LaDainian Tomlinson did it in 89 games during the 2006 season. Brown holds the record for total seasons leading the NFL in all-purpose yards (five: 1958–1961, 1964), and is the only rusher in NFL history to average over 100 yards per game for a career. In addition to his rushing, Brown was a superb receiver out of the backfield, catching 262 passes for 2,499 yards and 20 touchdowns, while also adding another 628 yards returning kickoffs.

Every season he played, Brown was voted into the Pro Bowl, and he left the league in style by scoring three touchdowns in his final Pro Bowl game. He accomplished these records despite not playing past 29 years of age. Brown's six games with at least four touchdowns remains an NFL record. Tomlinson and Marshall Faulk both have five games with four touchdowns.

Brown led the league in rushing a record eight times. He was also the first NFL player ever to rush for over 10,000 yards.

"He told me, 'Make sure when anyone tackles you he remembers how much it hurts.' He lived by that philosophy and I always followed that advice."
— John Mackey, 1999

While a lot of what Jim Brown has done and said after football I disagree with, I still say he is the greatest pure running back ever in the NFL.

Those numbers are astounding for a nine-year career. Even if one considers it was a much more run-heavy league then, still astounding.

“Sorry nice runner but Walter Payton was the GREATEST on and off the field”

Probably the stupidest, but not near the best. Killed himself with steroids at a young age. Best ever by far was Barry Sanders no one close, and he’s still healthy
