Yes, and it is all fantasy: by anti-divine right, not by striving and learning.

Although Disney/Marvel has made their political propaganda purposes very clear, and is obviously steering Captain Marvel in a Mary Sue SJW direction, I will say this for the sake of accuracy: She is not on the same level as Rey in Star Wars – not even close.

1. Carol Danvers has been in the story-line almost as long as Mar-Vell: March 1968 versus December 1967.

2. Danvers was an adult, trained USAF officer. She was not an adolescent, and she was not untrained or inexperienced. She met Mar-Vell in her official capacity as a military officer.

3. Danvers was imbued with Mar-Vell’s Kree DNA in an accident, January 1977, becoming Ms. Marvel. Marvel already set her on an overtly feminist political heading from then on; it is therefore not a recent contrivance.

4. Although she formally adopted the title of Captain Marvel fairly recently, July 2012, due to Captain America’s encouragement, she was a part of the mythos, and tied to the original Captain Marvel, for decades, from the very beginning.

5. Both before and after she became super-powered, she had years of experience to add to her military training. She is neither a novice (beginner) nor an amateur (non-professional).

6. At least when in Binary form, she was undeniably powerful, although not overall quite as much of a powerhouse as she is now being made.

Given that this is the penultimate episode of a 22-film arc, and given that all know she will play a significant role in the finale, Avengers Endgame, I think it is not plausible to project the Captain Marvel movie as an underperformer. I predict it will be a blockbuster.

I know the Fan-Boy mindset (and it still figures prominently, no matter what the male-haters say): There are fanatics who will go to see this movie multiple times just to see the end-credit scene(s), especially if it/they tie into Avengers (which it/they likely will).

It is after Avengers – in whatever they decide to call Phase 4 – that I expect to see some underperforming, unless they learn their lesson from Star Wars.

I suspect they will not be willing to learn that lesson – and that, more and more, the MCU will be going Solo to the box office (pun intended).

Whatever happens later, I repeat: Carol Danvers is not a full-blown Mary Sue like Rey of Star Wars (or like Wesley Crusher, the quintessential Marty Stu).

P.S.
I know some of this directly. I collected comics long ago; I owned Marvel Super-Heroes #12 & 13, Captain Marvel #1, and Ms. Marvel #1 at one time. I also once owned The Incredible Hulk #1 (the real first one) and Avengers #2 (I never got hold of #1).

Was blissfully unaware of the terms “Mary Sue” and Gary Stu” until this article...

I never watched much past the original series, and that kid did not encourage me to.

I was a huge fan of the original series. Didn't watch it on its original run, but became a fan watching the reruns over and over in the 1970's. When The Next Generation started, I had high hopes for it, but lost interest somewhere in the second season. A friend who stuck with it convinced me to give it a second look, claiming that the show really picked up in the third season. By then, TNG was in reruns, so I started back to watching it. He was right. Season three ended with the cliffhanger of Captain Picard becoming assimilated by The Borg. Also, Wesley started being de-emphasized around that time.

All in all, I think TNG was as good as the original. And it does not date as badly as the original series, what with better costumes, sets, etc. I have both shows complete on Blu-ray now. I nver got into any of the spinoffs.

Or maybe it really was rape, but they care more about their Hollyweird careers than they do about bringing the rapist to justice and helping to prevent him from preying on other women. And then have the gall to criticize conservative or Christian men for perceived misogyny. I wonder how many of those “Handmaid’s Tale” idiots and others of that ilk put up with any and all sexual assault and coercion from powerful lib men in Hollyweird.

Didn't go to the movie. Didn't pay a d@mn thing to watch it. As for the "suspension of disbelief" that makes the enjoyment of fantasy movies possible, it is clearly understood that there are ground rules for framing a plot. You create your universe, and you establish it's parameters. If your universe resolves around "science", you don't suddenly introduce "magic" to resolve plot conflicts.

You are just glossing over my point about the hype that surrounded that movie. Every f***ing news outlet was championing it for months and months, much in the same way they pushed that ignorant, stupid, mouthy, incompetent Obama as a "light bringer" genius.

Yes, the public bought the Obama movie, but they would not have done so without the constant barrage of demonstrably untrue hype about that Man-child idiot.

They made it a racial thing, and they ginned up all the blacks, and all the whites who desperately wanted to signal to everyone how non-racist they were, and all these people together dragged along the muddled middle who simply go along with the latest greatest fads being hyped out of Hollywood and New York.

But the movie was silly. As I said, the Black Panther character was much more impressive in his role in Marvel's "Civil War."

Again, the movie was hyped like I had never seen a movie hyped before. Only women ghost busters came close to the fake undeserved hype they heaped on "Black Panther", and yes, enough publicity will make a crappy movie popular.

UPDATE: Disney had an invite only screening to “select” critics who all gave positive feminist spin reviews and oddly all used the same phrases. Essentially the critics were full NPC just running their programs.

The feminists are also attacking people who went onto the rotten tomatoes website and clicked “NOT INTERESTED” and commented they do not want to see any SJW / left agenda movie.

NOTE: the release date is set to be on the same day as a communist holiday adopted by the UN. Surprise.
