I read about that several months ago. They called them Eurasian Tree Sparrows but I don’t think they’re any different than our English or House Sparrows which are a pest......and I take great pleasure in shooting them in my backyard under my bird feeder any chance I get.
I got a lesson on the “four pests”while working in China. And I thought it was the insane air pollution that was responsible for no birds.
I remember that! They had films of them shooting every bird they saw.
There is NO bad news. You would be wise to remember that comrade.
Clearly it was Trump’s fault!
Was it on purpose?

No. But the current danger is that China is getting into international dam building and with it’s past practices of bad news suppression and denial of responsibility, has learned nothing from past failures. This is beginning to show as true by current failures in Chinese dam projects in Southeast Asia.
So...a typhoon came ashore and was blocked in place for three days by a pressure ridge, dumping a years worth of rain while it was stalled.
Sound familiar?
a stalled typhoon.... one year’s rain in just a few days
Typhoon.
That’s why life in communist countries can appear so idyllic, bad news of any kind is suppressed by the state.
Everyone thinks good engineering is expensive.
Bad engineering is even more expensive...
In China, bad engineering is just embarrassing and a loss of face - possibly the death penalty for the screw ups who embarrassed the Party leaders.
Whats a million Chinese?
See you and raise you 100 million Chinese ...
That is a typical leftist thought process. Their history all over the world is full of these “unexpected” ramifications.
They are supposed to be the smartest people in the room, but when they conduct warfare in a way contrary to the way warfighters suggest it, or run an economy contrary to the fundamental principles of economics, or manage a wildlife system by trying to rig so they get a result, they are continually presented with lost wars, failed economies, and ecological disasters.
And they always shrug their shoulders, exclaim “This was unexpected!” and instantly forget the lesson they should have learned.
Next time a war comes around, an economic decision is to be made, or a pest control problem is encountered, when Leftists are in charge, you can be damn sure there will be bad outcomes that were “unexpected”.
Damn, how I despise Leftism and Leftists.
I agree. When arguing points about death tolls with Leftists, I often go with the lower estimates just to avoid wasting time on “You’re wrong! They didn’t murder 150 million, it was only 40 million!”
What was that quote widely attributed to Stalin: :The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic.”
They endeavor to keep things as “statistics”.
Thanks EveningStar. Sounds like the worst Chinese disaster by a dam site.

In China, a million is a rounding error ...
Thank you for that link. I think I’m going to enjoy the web site. First one that caught my eye was what I hope is a refresher on bolt design.
I do remember the World Almamac listing the disaster as ‘flooding’ in that time period, along with at least 250,000 deaths (I don’t remember the exact number), so the huge disaster was known about...but, no, I don’t remember anything about dam bursts, but no surprise either, back then.
"I live in a village of 290 million people..."
