Is it worth a vacation visit? Hollywood?

Last time I was there was probably 10 years ago, as a tourist when I had young-teen kids. If you are in the area and have the time, its one of those famous tourist sites you should say just to say you've been there. I remember there being lot of people and hoopla around the Judy Garland star. My kids had no idea who she was - although they knew the Wizard of Oz. So its interesting in that aspect.

If you remember the old Times Square before it got all sissified, you’ll find it to be an odd mixture of both the old Times Square and the new one. Is it worth seeing? Yeah. I had fun. The wife and I stayed at an AirBNB condo on Hollywood and Vine during one of our Cali trips (her family lives all over the state, so we do it every couple years) and we had a good time. There are some seedy dive bars to check out, mixed in with more hipster-ish places. The Chinese Theater is cool. It’s crowded as hell in some spots and full of the typical ‘scam the tourist’ type things you would expect from such a place. Turn those old NYC street-smarts back on when you’re there.

A lot of LA reminds me of NYC back when it was really dangerous in the 80’s and early 90’s. Especially LAX and the surrounding area. What a craphole.

Lots to do there. It’s all about what you make of it.

Worst tourist attraction. Seriously? There are many worse here in my state, which I will not name, and risk hurting the local feelings. But to give an example, there’s a cemetery...

(I do a lot of genealogical research)

and within the cemetery there is an underground mine tour, where they ride you around and talk about the horrors, the child labor, the cave-ins. In this same cemetery they also have a large playground, the only one I’ve ever seen entirely enclosed by a cemetery.

There’s also a bad attraction in Texas, the massive Lake Tawakoni spider web. The park superintendent said, “There are times you can literally hear the screech of millions of mosquitoes caught in those webs.” Lovely.

I have relatives that all live in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Whenever they come out and we’re in Ventura they say.....I hate to sound like a tourist but can we do Hollywood? I always say yes but warn them first....it’s not what you think it is going to be. It’s dirty, smells bad, and there are freaks everywhere. Don’t accept anything from the hucksters or let them talk to you. lol Even so, they have all enjoyed it and can say they’ve been there.

You’re asked to constantly look downward along busy city streets. What could possibly go wrong?

>>Is it worth a vacation visit? Hollywood?<<

No.

But I like to go annually to Universal Studios (no where near Hollywood). It is expensive, but we always get the VIP tour (I mean it is once a year).

It could be just feeding my homesickness, though. I used to leave near to it and went almost weekly on an annual pass.

ce-ment stars with their names and a symbol for their field. On the internet you can see photos of the star and list of their achievements.

It is not like a memorial with names etched of those who have died.

IMagine the art work walk of fame “The Thinker” “Mona Lisa” etc.

baseball hall of fame has bronze images and stats. And more.

“World’s Worst Tourist Attraction”? Not for much longer. It will lose that status as soon as the Monument to the Awesomeness of Barack Hussein Obama is completed in Chicago.

“It’s dirty, smells bad, and there are freaks everywhere.”

Well said! That was my experience, also!! I will never get that smell out of my head — I can’t even describe it!!
