100 percent correct in your perception. When I was young the police looked at everyone as neighbors and friends first, not "threats". We trusted them because they trusted us. That is not true today.

The police today believe they are the boss of the people and not the other way around. Again, this stems from having too much power through too many laws.

see my ;post above- they are forced to see them that way these days- society is very very angry these days, and much more hopped up on drugs than they used to be (before the 70’s) Especially in cities- Lots more ‘psychiatric problems’ these days too- plus lots more violent immigrants and foreign gang members and actual foreign terrorists and violent muslims around these days- (obama imported them by the millions)

Police work has definitely changed for the worse- and these days lawyers are right there- just waiting for one cop to not do everything 100% perfect-

Exactly, Police work used to be pretty basic- now it’s very very complicated- so many freakin laws rules and regulations- and everyone just waiting for a policeman to mess up so that they can scream about the whole police network being corrupt-

I don't know if its reasonable that all cops can read all medical situations clearly...sounds like this guy's seizures are an atypical presentation......

Yes, that has been my experience. Funny thing, but I don’t remember seeing any of the old-time cops with shaved heads or wearing sunglasses all the time. But that’s pretty common among the younger ones.

Perhaps there should be a rule. If you’re a cop and want to shave your head, you must first pass a Dale Carnegie “How to Win Friends and Influence People” course.

Stupid and nasty cops serve only to give good cops a bad name.

The "good" cops who defend their actions, no matter how inappropriate, over the top, excessively violent, or flat-out murderous give all cops a bad name.

They must clean their own houses, as difficult and unpleasant as that may be.

Else demagoguing politicians and community disorganizers will do it for them, and that will be FAR, FAR worse!

Two examples of Indianapolis' 'finest'? If so, I pity the inhabitants of Indy. According to the article, Officer Maurice 'Cartman' Norris 'responded to the call of a man having a seizure', by physically beating on the man to stop his seizure. Brilliant! Good thing he didn't have a seizure dog, or else both he and the dog would be dead. I guess that IQ tests of police officer candidates are considered 'discriminatory' in Indy. Or, as happened in Toronto where cop James Forcillo killed Sammy Yatim on a streetcar in 2013, in a case of 'roid rage'?

I can see why Officer 'Bubba-ette' joined in to help subdue the 'perpetrator'. Seeing another cop wrestling with someone on the ground, it was her responsibility to assist the other Barney. In her defense, even if she acknowledged the call was about a 'seizure victim', she would not neccessarily know if the 'perp' was the same victim, so I would give her a 'pass' on jumping into the fray. That said, kneeing him several times was too much, in my opinion.

I guess the moral of the story is, always obey a cop, even if it is physically impossible for you to do so!

LEO’s flat scare me - was pulled over one time and all the cop wanted was want a date took personal info from my DL/registration; told my folks and kept a lookout should he ever show up. He never did, but ...

I disagree here. Police are very very rarely held accountable. They know this and are acting accordingly. These days the public is at great risk with almost any interaction with law enforcement. Cops that literally fear their own shadow as a threat are far too often using deadly force when very often no force whatsoever was needed much less deadly force. The public has become conditioned to believe this is necessary for office safety and that is utter nonsense. We are in desperate need of a complete overhaul of police culture.

I'm picking up on that too......My grandfather was a sergeant on the Detroit Police dept, my dad was an Executive Lieutenant on the Detroit Police dept. and I've always treated them with respect.

I don't trust them any more. Last spring at this time, myself and three other seniors, one 90 years old, another 78 years old, another 76 years old and myself were sitting at a picnic table having a single bear after just finishing batting practice at a park in Warren, MI at about noon on a Sunday morning like we have been doing for years and years, 4 mornings a week from spring thru the fall.

A cop car pulled up and two big dudes get out of the car and slowly saunter over to our table. The biggest one says good morning gentlemen then looks at me and says "you're not supposed to have glass bottles in the park". I tried to explain to him this has been our routine forever and have never been approached by the cops. He then says I don't care how long you've been doing it, no bottles in the park. I didn't say another word, I poured the beer out of my bottle and put in my cooler then got up and left.......

That show of authority was totally uncalled for especially since there are no signs in the park that forbid alcohol of any type or glass bottles for that matter.......
