Laura Ingalls Wilder’s name was scrubbed from some literary award because she wrote some very mild, but uncomplimentary, statements about Indians that didn’t pass the morally-pure standards of today. /s They must have people whose job it is to dig deep into a person’s works to find something — anything — that might offend the virgin eyes, ears, and souls of the people lucky enough to live in this golden time. /s I’m old enough to remember Kate Smith and some of her songs — not the ones mentioned, however. I’ll guarantee that most people today don’t even know who she was and, if they are, certainly aren’t familiar with anything she did besides “God Bless America.” They might know the song without even knowing she sang it. Her version of the song is iconic. Screw the Yankees.

Kate Smith was a sweet, gentle All-American Southern woman. That’s the real reason. There wasn’t a racist bone in her body. Anyway, she has been dead for over three decades. Mighty brave of the Yankee organization to “take a stand” against a harmless old dead woman.
Oh, well, just one more reason to hate the Yankees.
