I retired at 60 and could have started drawing SS three years ago, but I still haven't filed for it.

Why not?

If you can start drawing at 62 and wait until you are 65 to start it takes you something like 15 years to recoup the difference.

I am not that sure I will live that long.

Is somebody who runs their own business counted in the workforce numbers?

I wouldn’t think so, because they have to pay self-employment taxes that is Social Security and Medicare Taxes (both halves)

My husband and I started out strong. Catastrophic medical debt wiped us out. A ten year health battle had me working only part time during my peak earning years.

Now I’m healthy and we are back in the top income bracket; however, with one in college and two more on his heels, aggressively saving is not an option. I will never retire. I accept that these were the cards we were dealt.

It does not have a single thing to do with it. “Not in labor force” excludes the retired.

What it has to do with is the fact that we need to create well over 150k jobs per month just to keep up with population increase, and Obama ran well below that for 8 years. Trying to catch up on exponential growth is a difficult, time-consuming task.

One takeaway is that we still have no need for immigrant labor and could stand to get rid of all of them, legal or not.

74 million under 18 years old is correct.

People 65+ are 15.6%.

327 X 0.156 = 51 million

You said 132 million.

FYI, This article was published in 2016. Currently the rate seems to be at general minimum, showing some localized upward movement, perhaps an inflection point.

My husband and I started out strong.

That was one reason, though not the only reason, I stayed in the USAF, and tolerated all that BS that goes along with it. Medical is covered. Now, my son is two weeks from graduating from OTS, at Maxwell. He too, may very well become a career USAF Officer. He might go the same route I did. 👍

“Women with children on welfare can get the equivalent of 60k.”

How is that possible.

I thought the earliest to retire on SS was 62.

Foreign nationals (H1B Visas) are replacing A LOT of citizen employee's. Many of whom, especially in the IT field are then not able to find new work as a direct result of this inside outsourcing.

Here's one article:

Nationwide, our study found that the wage-equivalent value of benefits for a mother and two children ranged from a high of $60,590 in Hawaii to a low of $11,150 in Idaho. In 33 states and the District of Columbia, welfare pays more than an $8-an-hour job. In 12 states and DC, the welfare package is more generous than a $15-an-hour job.

Of course, not everyone on welfare gets all seven of the benefits in our study. But, for many recipients — particularly the “long-term” dependents — welfare clearly pays substantially more than an entry-level job.

When welfare pays better than work

Th volume of illegal aliens in this country has overwhelmed the government’s pencil pushers ability to produce garbage outcomes based on bogus assumptions.

So it is time to clear the slate and start over with good base numbers. First start over? A question on the 2020 census about citizenship. And employment status. The BLS should only report statistics about people who are supposed to be in this country. The illegal cockroaches should not be considered for any reasons, except cost of removal.

One can do quite nicely on $54K a year from SS in Arizona.

The government has made living off the tit a way of life, and it is unnecessary to work for too many people.
I haven’t really heard of anything this administration has done to slow that gravy train down.
