Wow! I’ve never seen this animation that shows how the hard the Indian plate smashed into the Eurasian plate, subsequently creating the Himalayan mountains. Thanks for posting this.
supercontinental cycle
Should be one heckuva motorcycle, made by Lincoln and all.
Kind of blows the global warming and rising tides them away.
them = theme

Senator Hank Johnson: “I hate to say that ‘I told you so, but...Everybody laughed at me about that Guam tipping over statement. Who’s laughing now?”
So, wouldn’t this reduce airline ticket prices to Europe?
...of course, the supposed "peeling" would likely have been going on for millions of years. But the discovery of this particular piece of evidence for is recent. ie, news.
You mean you're not all upset and feeling threatened by this piece of geological news? :)
And, BTW, you're welcome.
That's how I figure it. So this is how AOC's train is going to work. We just have to wait 200 million years to lay the track.
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we’ll be A.O.K.

A budding subduction zone offshore of Spain heralds the start of a new cycle that will one day pull the Atlantic Ocean seafloor into the bowels of the Earth, a new study suggests.
Understanding how subduction zones start is long-lasting mystery in plate tectonics, said lead study author João Duarte, a research fellow at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
Subduction zones are key players in creating supercontinents and opening and closing Earths oceans.
In a subduction zone, one of Earths tectonic plates dives beneath another, sinking into the mantle, the layer under the crust.
As oceanic crust disappears, continents may draw closer together and collide, as has happened numerous times in the history of the planet.
Subduction zones also spawn the biggest earthquakes on the planet, as in Japan, Chile and Alaska. ...

What a beautiful world this will be. What a glorious time to be free :)
When did Duarte take time of from the Presidency and the “sport” of dropping criminals and terrorists from helicopters to study tectonic plates?
Lol! Looks like I and just one or two others here are the only ones interested in plate tectonics and geologic history.
FWIW, I was a geology major back in the 80s. Unfortunately, I didn’t complete the degree, although I came darn close, needing just one last course in the major, and several other BS courses in non-major areas. Personal problems at the time derailed me. :(
the upper plate is made of soft rocks that are light and the bottom is dense and heavy.
Sounds like Rosie O’Donnell.
They’ll gravitate to that once Climate Change falls apart.
I think it’s fascinating, and thank you for posting this stuff when you find it.
If I had it all to do over (and the extracurricular ‘stuff’ didn’t interfere) I’d have kept my cabinetmaking as a hobby and majored in Geology or Geophysics.
I hope that, wherever he is, Alfred Wegener gets a fresh laugh every single day !
