I’ve never understood how a person can be smart and liberal at the same time. Common sense seems to debunk all their ideas. Weird. But yeah, Schneier on crypto is awesome.

I never have understood it either. My father-in-law is a genuine rocket scientist. He worked on the Apollo project and everything after until the mid-80s. Yet, he is very liberal. Over the years I've come to the conclusion that he feels that the liberal 'ideals' are required by his Christian faith. I don't understand how he's able to square his beliefs with the party's vocal support of abortion. We've agreed to disagree generally. I love the guy, because he really is a likable fellow and was a good father to my late wife, but politically? Yeah, we don't really go there anymore.
