The woman was going through a divorce and collected snakes;
The sheriff owned the home, lived next door, and was also a snake afficiando, who took snakes to a school show and tell, and bragged of owning many snakes.
So we have a mystery here:
Two snake enthusiasts, one the county sheriff, one a woman going through a divorce; A home specifically set up for snakes that the sheriff owned and lived next door to while the woman would visit twice a week.
Were the sheriff and the woman involved? Perhaps met through a snake club? Did she come by to care for the snakes and/or to see the sheriff? How does the ongoing divorce factor in?
Snakes generally have a pretty good idea about what size prey they can swallow. An eight foot snake, while very strong, just isn’t looking for anything that big. As for defense, constrictors attempt to mimic venomous snakes when they feel threatened and display and make false strikes if they cannot retreat...unles she was doing something crazy like trying to feed it a rat with her teeth and it did its constrictor thing to get the rodent and in the process, her head. Or, if she was handling it and passed out, or had a heart attack, it might coil around her for warmth. So it is important that the coroner take a close look at her and not assume.
Weird.
When a dog kills a person, that dog is always put down.
Do they put down snakes too? If this happens?
Good question, don’t know. One article said the snake was loosely wrapped around her neck and easily removed.

Sounds very suspicious ...they might have been into kinky strangulation sex and went too far and she died, then the guy tried to cover it up.
Too bad they didn’t have snakes in the prison for the Epstein Arkanacide. Would have helped to reduce suspicion by inquiring minds.....

Yeah an article in the UK about this says most of the snakes were the sheriff’s but the woman also kept 20 snakes there and would visit them. It says the sheriff was there with her that evening but an “unnamed person” was the one who found her later that night.
Some weird stuff was definitely going on there.

The snake was ‘planted’ around her neck. Somebody else did it and the snake was a convenient excuse, which will not be able to defend itself against alleged crime.
By “more to the story” do you mean the county sheriff is a freak of nature and a porn star? :-P
I’m hardly an expert but an 8 foot Retic is barely past its juvenile stage.
They easily attain 17-20+ feet at maturity and year old Retics can be 6 feet or more.
At that length, it’s almost certainly still going to be very slim and hardly more than “teenager”

“Reticulated pythons are capable of growing up to a foot a month. However, MOST will not achieve that. The average growth rate of a retic in captivity is more like 6-8 inches/month the first year and then 2-3 feet per year after that.”
I have a couple 7-8 foot Boas, and at that length, they’re a lot stronger snakes than a comparable Retic yet I can easily slip a hand in between them and me if they feel like they’re going to fall [their great fear] and get a bit too squeezy for comfort.
So, to me at least, this story makes no sense, in that light.
This woman would not be the first person murdered that had a snake “framed” for the death.
