No, that is not the problem. He needs to know that the rest of the country, especially the midwest, still has sporadic electricity and 300 baud internet. Running water is not guaranteed to be safe.

Don't forget that the child mortality rate is near 50% just from wolf, coyote and possum attacks.

My most productive years as a top sales rep were in my late 30’s to early 50’s.

My wife’s came later after our kids finished high school and went to college or good trade schools.

Her productive and financially rewarding years were from 50 to early 70’s.

She was the lead RN in a busy Family Practice.

She and I did a lot of negotiating with the tight wad top docs and her docs.

I had great health care, and they dropped hers and kicked up her salary and increased her 401k payments by them, and enabled her to buy her own IRA.

They had a crummy financial guy and I compared what my 401 k was bringing in and they dropped the loser. They went to a big firm with not that great mutual index fund choices. Her boss used my 401k printout to show the difference.

So the financial firm was changed and got a little better. They allowed us/me to buy and sell across their many market funds versus the few choices for the others. They dropped that because her returns were about double versus the other package. More negotiations, and they went to my 401k/later IRA.

Instead of raises, she went from a 5 day week to a 4 day and
then a 3 day week. She got 5 weeks vacation and two weeks off at Christmas.

Her best friend in the office and still a good friend, left that office and used our techniques to get a job as an office manager for a large dental practice, 25 years ago.

She is still working 3 days a week. Every time she tries to retire, they up their ante/pay and benefits. From company car to more paid time off and $’s flowing into her 401K.

“Don’t forget that the child mortality rate is near 50% just from wolf, coyote and possum attacks.”

LOL!!

And don’t forget, he’ll never know when a neighbor’s still might explode. He’s safer staying in Commiefornia—where they’ll love him.

Wow, I could probably manage to move out of California and figure out how to live on that passive income. Yes, I think I could.

My 15 Year that I took in 2013 is 2.875. That's fixed.

Or Mr. Economist took out an ARM, which will adjust after a certain number of years. That'll shock him for sure.

I’ve read his blog in the past.
It’s people like this who DO move and drive up the real estate and property taxes in their new location (NV, CO, TX, ID) who annoy me. What if *I* want to move there and they’ve ruined it already? Stay put, doofus.

Yeah, if a person can’t retire on $3 mil, who CAN retire?
Certainly gives one confidence in reading his financial column - not!

“OMG his health insurance is almost $25,000.00 per year THAT is ridiculous!!!”
```````````````````````````
A friend of mine is self employed with his wife and two sons on his health insurance, all healthy and no pre-existing conditions, and their health insurance is about the same price. That’s in Mississippi, not California.
Yes, it is ridiculous. It’s pretty much the norm now though. Thanks to Obama half the country is getting free or subsidized health care from the government while the rest of us pay 10X as much to fund it. The insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank because at its core Obamacare was a payoff to the insurance industry.
When I worked at Microsoft in the 90’s I encountered a lot of 1st generation Microsofties who exhibited this extreme entitlement attitude. Many on campus brown-nosed them, hoping to fall into a similar circumstance. Of course it was only the inner ring who caught the golden ring.
The VA regularly takes care of my vision; I go elsewhere for all else only because I have the options. In my part of the country the VA is thought to do a very good job and I’ve never had a problem.
One of my friends makes 5 figures a month on Amazon affiliate links alone. 4 years ago he made an experiment to stay and compare. Tax-wise, CA was ‘stealing” money from him.
He moved to FL and never been happier. Most people who depend on affiliate marketing tend to move out of CA or even WA state.
