But alcoholics are fine.
Pill swallowers are fine.

Cuz none of these cause problems
at work. Please.

Because they are about the only game in town, I’ve had to rent trucks or trailers from them a few times. Not one of those times was a positive experience.

About 15 years ago, they were the customer of a company I worked for sold stuff to U-Haul corporate. The corporation was run about as poorly as the stores were.

I used to live near a hospital with no smoking on the grounds. The pigs who worked there dumped cigarette butts all over everyone’s lawns.

“Scotts” ... the fertilizer and potting soil folks, have been doing this for many years. Including random drug tests for nicotine.

Scotts Fertilizer / Potting Soil has little choice in not hiring smokers. The Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) can wipe out vegetables and flowering plants and Scotts does not want to be the cause of someone losing their garden from the soil they bought. TMV is carried in cigarettes, smokers' saliva, and on their hands.

In a free country, you hire and fire who you want and the employee and employer freely negotiate the contract.

Only force and its covert brother fraud are prevented by the state.

The problem is that tests for cannabis and nicotine only show whether or not you’ve used it in the last several days or weeks.

Not following, elaborate?

Are any of those items inhaled into the lungs?

I think he's saying that nightshades contain nicotine and could cause you to register a false positive on a blood nicotine test.

Tests for cannabis are useless to tell if the person is under the influence. It stays in the system for weeks, even a month or more. So while I’m fine with any company saying ‘you can’t be high at work’, there’s no way to test for that. And, personally, I don’t think it’s the company’s business what people do on their own time.
