To make an omelet, you’ve got to break some eggs. The American dairy industry is not what it used to be, and the decline well precedes President Trump. Fake news.

“ESPECIALLY small dairy farms. They have been declining for a long time. It is a 24/7 job and you cannot miss a milking.”

It’s 24/7/365.

Dairy Farming is not as popular with younger folks.
ESPECIALLY small dairy farms. They have been declining for a long time. It is a 24/7 job and you cannot miss a milking.

Back in the '70s, I worked with an ex-Marine who was brought up on a dairy farm. He said that he got up at 4 a.m. every day all year long, except on his birthday when he got an extra hour in the sack. I asked him if he enjoyed the extra time and he said that he had his folks wake him up at the same time, then lay there for an hour, just repeating "I don't have to get up." That was his birthday present.

When WWII broke out, he enlisted in the Marines. "I couldn't believe my luck! They let us sleep until 5 a.m. every day. I got paid $40 a month and I all did was march around with a nine-pound rifle."

Then came Tarawa.

Wait a minute!
818 farms just in Wisconsin is not ‘a stupid teat puller’
Why do you call them stupid? Because they work long days , seven days a week?
You should watch your tongue!

Yep, many other factors in this. Soda and water vending in schools now, more juices, more dairy allergies, soy almond coconut milk options. Corporate, large-scale dairy farming outcompeting smaller, older farms .

Some of the dairies have relocated
which makes the article misleading.

They’ve headed to “greener”
pastures.

On the early 1970s, the Federal Government was paying a lot of dairymen to get out of the business for at least five years.

In the later 1970s and onto the early 2000s, all the dairy farmers in western Washington took the government money, waited the five years, and then opened up much larger dairies in Eastern Washington where it was much cheaper to operate a dairy business. Big part of that was manure management was much less expensive in an arid environment and fertilizer companies would buy the dried manure.

You are one of the reasons some ppl are afraid to post. I hope your degrading ignorant comment doesn’t apply to me personally...i asked a question due to someone else posting this and wanted information to quell it. You were no help....just a crude remark.

Apologies Fawn. Don’t be afraid to Post.

I get frustrated when obvious hit pieces from leftist sources are posted WITHOUT that fact being pointed out.

Any headline like, “Wisconsin dairy farmers suffer massive blow thanks to Trump’s trade war.”, is not designed to INFORM. Its purpose is to tear down Trump.

Dairy Farms have been on the decline for years and years. The cause has less to do with trade and Trump and more to do with shrinking demand.

They’re suffering more from the declining demand for dairy for health reasons and the shift to vegetarian/vegan milk alternatives.
