I am so bummed about Borden. Great eggnog - beats Dean’s/Barber’s hands down. I hope they bounce back well.

And the main culprit is Walmart since they opened their own milk processing plant.

BS article is BS.

Milk drinking is at an all time low because the leftists and progressives have scared children into thinking that cow farts are destroying the climate. So milk is bad along with eating meat - which is why there’s this giant push to soy/almond milk and beyond meat.

Perhaps you’ve heard some of those excited pronouncements from the same leftist papers?

That’s what’s killing the industry - not Trump’s tariffs.

“And the main culprit is Walmart since they opened their own milk processing plant”

I guess that explains why they’re selling milk for $1.25/gallon.

The public has reduced its consumption of milk and cheese over the last 50 years. That is why the dairy farmers are in trouble. Trump is not the cause. So yes it is fake news.

In the last few months both Dean Farms & Borden’s dairies have filed for bankruptcy. They are 2 of the biggest dairy operations.
Dairy farming has always been a very demanding occupation. But, when dairies shut down from falling business, the milk suppliers will drop by the wayside too.
People not consuming as much dairy products must be the President’s fault too.
Hey, let’s blame him.
I’m sick of democrats.

Correlation is not necessarily causation. Sometimes it is. But not all the time.

I don't know about Wisconsin, but here in California, the dairy industry is highly subsidized. It could be all the people getting off of government welfare and food stamps that is party to blame.

I live here and small dairies are just not competitive. Diaries have been consolidating to achieve economy of scale and reduced costs for decades, but it continues to accelerate as more and better jobs become available for the children who respect what their parents and grandparents did but have zero interest in continuing to work themselves to death 24/7/365. It’s a very hard way of life.

Yep, a lot of people don’t realize that a lot of young people (yes, including white kids) don’t care for drinking dairy milk. If they consume milk they use one of alternative “milks”. Most of these folks like cheese, butter and yogurt.

I personally never liked drinking straight milk and will consume it with cereal or with a protein shake. I have no issue cooking with it, etc. but I just can’t stand drinking milk straight.

The American Independent

Typical Marxist tactic Name your leftist rag the partriotic name you can come up with, sorta like “People for the American way”

[ESPECIALLY small dairy farms. They have been declining for a long time. It is a 24/7 job and you cannot miss a milking.]

Farming is a tough business. If you have the skills to run a farm successfully, those skills can be put to more lucrative ends with far less effort outside of the farming sector.

There is almond milk, and it’s turned out to be marketable to people who aren’t even lactose intolerant.

Fake IDIOT News to be sure. New Mexico and California with giant dairies in arid land that milk round the clock, versus small dairies in Wisconsin, with typical brutal winters and always volatile weather.

That is just one part of it. The average of a farmer is 57 years old. I don’t know about dairy farmers but you can be sure there are less all the time. The work is hard. The investment is enormous.

It is happening in all sectors of farming. Less people to take over and more efficiency and big machines make it more difficult every day. Next will be real autonomous machines and robots, so get ready, one person will soon be able to do much more.

Competition in the case also from the nut milks, soy, and 100 other drinks also contribute to the demise of the dairy farmer. 40 years of attacks on the dairy products also do not help. Milk, meat, and eggs have been demonized since the mid 70s.

All I can say is thank God for Donald Trump.

Dairy farms have been losing ground in Wisconsin and other ‘dairy’ states since the 1970’s.

This is NOT President Trump’s fault. How could it POSSIBLY BE!?!?

This is drummed up cr@p from a progressive newspaper!

Yes, things are NOT rosy, but it is what it is. People ARE drinking less dairy. More milk IS going to cheese makers that get the milk at a lesser rate. Farms HAVE been mismanaged and did not change with the times once they hit that Third Generation, which is true with ANY family operation.

(The First Generation does all of the work and establishes the business. The Second Generation coasts and enjoys the ride and the prestige. The Third Generation takes whatever money is still there and runs!)

The prices for grains are through the ROOF and have been for decades. Again, NOT President Trump’s fault! How could it be? If you don’t own paid-for LAND (See ‘Second Generation’) to assist in the growing of your own crops to feed your dairy cows, you ARE going to take it in the shorts.

We rent crop land to a local dairy. They are a Second Generation family operation. We keep our rent prices LOW so they CAN keep making a living, but seriously? If it comes down to their bottom line, or mine, I’m choosing me and mine.

We could get $5K an acre if they were to BUY it from us, which they cannot afford. We ARE doing them a favor. And we are HAPPY to do so. For now.

I sound mean, but this IS ‘Business 101,’ Kids! If you didn’t diversify your farm/land/business 20 years ago, you’re done.

It’s Trump’s fault because he drinks Diet Coke instead of Milk.

I use it for my protein shakes. Doesn’t give me the bloat like dairy.
Great for fresh fruit smoothies as well.
