None of the Chinese people I know drink much milk or eat cheese, either.

Which brings me to the main point. What cultures primarily drink a lot of milk and eat a lot of cheese? Northern Europeans. What cultures have the Democrats been bringing in to the US in the last 40 years? Not Northern Europeans. Which cultures have Democrats been denigrating for the last 40 years? Northern European.

The dying off of dairies is simply another of the unintended consequences of progressive policies.

Instead of blaming Trump, I think it would be wise to look at other related problems close to home in Wisconsin.

Yes, a strong dollar is a problem for farm exports. I farm, my family has farmed in this county since 1889.

This article is a cheap shot at Trump.

I think a lot of small farms are selling out out to the developers. When you can get multi-millions for selling a forty or a couple of them, that is a very great temptation.

Hard to afford milk. Milk’s close to $6/gal here and hardly anyone buys it. Very small section. I buy a quart for $2.60 every other week for cooking.

Yup. I have many farmer relatives. The kids mostly leave the farm and get into a different career path

Wisconsin lost nearly 500 farms from 2016 to 2017
Wisconsin milk production has nearly doubled since 2016.

This seems like cherry picking

On a business trip I went to a restaurant near the capital building in Madison that advertised having specialty local cheeses. I put in 6 different requests from the cheese list and they had none of them. I gave up and left. I felt like I was in the Monty Python cheese shop skit.

I don’t know where you are. Do you have a Walmart?

I’ve been getting it cheap from Kroger for a long time. A couple years ago, they had it for $1.19/gallon for several weeks. Now Kroger is charging $1.59/gallon. But, aside from Walmart and Kroger, it costs almost $3/gallon in other stores.

Its a blame trump article. fact is its a lot more complex and factors in this than Trump.

Flooding this spring messed up things early, and killed animals. A short gorwing season for hay also really hit farmers and cattle people very hard this year. Plus the generational issue they bring up comes into play for some of it.

I will be pragmatic and say that we need to promote farming, stop importing food and if need be,to import farmers who will gladly farm (such as the South Africans). All I see now is farm land turning to mega sprawl. It’s all so disgusting.

Is China a big market for dairy products? I have eaten thousands of meals in Chinese eateries and have never once encountered cheese, butter, ice cream, etc.

Everyone I know here in WI loves Trump.
I think he will win WI again.
Lots of hardcore libs in Madison and Milwaukee, of course.

Dairying is a difficult and filthy way to eek out a living. Tough way to live and the kids know they can make many times more money off the farm.
Lots of illegals work the farms because the adult children of dairy farmers don’t want to continue the family farm life.

We import very little food. I think we need to stop draining our aquifers to water farms so they can produce crops for export. It’s very short-term oriented, and leads to both soil subsidence and sinkholes. Periodic assessments of aquifer levels need to be conducted so that any farm region that drains local aquifers faster than they can be replenished is forbidden to export that crop. We risk turning vast stretches of land into desert in order to feed the world.

Pull your panties out of your ask crack. This is a “loaded” headline.

Are liberals going to bring all the dairy farms back?
