We’re selling rice to China for crying out loud.

I'm kind of a tad skeptical here. Ready to stand corrected.

My millennial kids don't drink dairy milk. Not because of me, as they were raised on it.

They just don't care for it.

Granted, this is from CNN Business but other "news" sources report the same thing...

China will import American rice for the first time by Alanna Petroff @AlannaPetroff July 21, 2017: 11:22 AM ET

And this was only 6 months after President Trump took office.

Total BS

China doesn’t drink milk and they don’t eat cheese.

Dairy farming has been going down for years.

What is going on with this? I'm reading Trump may lose Wisconsin over this?

Dairy is down because people are eating less dairy. Have you seen the supermarket shelves? Soy, Almond, Cashew, Pea, Hemp, Oat milk abound, largely at the expense of dairy.

And guess what? The Chinese have NEVER been large consumers of dairy products. Walk into any true Chinese restaurant … how many dishes contain cheese, milk or even butter? There's a reason for that. MANY Chinese do NOT digest milk products well. The Indians next door LOVE the stuff. Not the Chinese. This is a bogus story.

Some want to blame the non-WASP people arriving as the dairy boogeyman. It’s younger people in general, including whites, who are not drinking milk. There are so many beverage offerings that drinking dairy milk isn’t as popular as it once was (soda is supposedly in trouble as well).

I’m gen-x and I don’t like to drink dairy milk. We always had it at the house while I was growing up and I never liked it and despised getting it at school with lunch. My wife would guzzle it, if it wasn’t for the calories. Our kids, do not like it but it was always offered and available at the house and I never discouraged them to drink it. Got a granddaughter who does not care for it (her mom offers it).

https://www.statista.com/statistics/195764/top-10-us-states-for-cheese-production-2008/

Wisconsin alone makes 3,400,000,000 lb. of cheese a year. That is less than one third of the total U.S. production.

Red China’s import in cheese went UP in 2019 over 2018. Even so, total importation of cheese is about 80,000,000 pounds. Not quite negligible, but not a really big deal, either.

Trouble for dairy farmers started in 2018

Wrong. Started much earlier.

Don’t know about that

It’s a lie. Trump has provided for monetary offsets paid for by tariffs on China

Won’t affect ice cream because you get that from a grocery store, not a farm!

IMHO, substituting milk with almonds is NUTS/

It is a very sad day when milk’s importance has been diminished.

The World is a less cozy, welcoming place.

In other words...COLD.

I do my grocery shopping at WalMart. (not much choice) However, I buy my milk at Sheetz gas station. I realize I pay more there than at WM, but I find that WM milk just does not keep well and I hate to just dump it down the drain.

“None of the Chinese people I know drink much milk or eat cheese, either.”

that was the case when i was in china in 1981 ...

article sounds like complete BS ... no way does China import U.S. diary products ...

The article is malarkey. Dairy farms are declining because commodity milk prices make them uneconomical. The commodity price is down because people drink soy milk or stopped drinking milk altogether. The climate change crowd doesn’t drink cow milk because they think cow farts pollute. Millennials don’t drink it because it’s not free. Dairy farms are a doomed to failure business. Not much to do with Trump.
